NT8 Charts Lags and Delays - Need a solution ASAP

Can someone clarify why is this happening? I got this issue for years.Originally posted by kdegale View Post

Because they're anchored by their date/time with a 1-second resolution, and tick and volume charts can have more than one bar per second, and as new bars arrive in the same second as (or before) the endpoint, they would appear to shift? Note especially that hand-drawn drawing tools are not anchored by bar number.
You can minimize the effect of this by not setting your endpoint past the last bar. If you set it in the "future" area of the chart, you will have this happen for sure, so don't do that.Last edited by QuantKey_Bruce; 06-20-2023, 05:22 AM.

I haven't updated NT to any the latest versions but is the issue moving trend channels when volatility picks up still an issue?Originally posted by QuantKey_Bruce View PostBecause they're anchored by their date/time with a 1-second resolution, and tick and volume charts can have more than one bar per second, and as new bars arrive in the same second as (or before) the endpoint, they would appear to shift? that is nonsense and just seems to be a never ending excuse, amongst others. here, there is no major volatility. this is now. my lag has been 10 seconds for the last 2 hours. i go day after day with lag. absolutely ridiculous. please provide a solution. and dont ask have i tried all the above. ive tried numerous times. just want a solution. how hard is that?Originally posted by NinjaTrader_ChelseaB View PostHello biegea,
Unfortunately, as the behavior tends to occur when the volatility increases, it can be necessary to do the testing during high volatility.
To confirm, you are finding the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor detailed in the forum post linked from post # 5 is not sufficient for determining which scripts are causing high resource use?
As far as prioritizing everything to enhance the software, one large performance increase would likely result from removing all 3rd party addons, as well as reduce CPU intensive scripts such as order flow which can process large amounts of data and require a lot of processing power. These would be what is causing the performance impact.

Hello Alesiosc,
Is the chart actually lagging?
If you right-click the chart is there a delay before the right-click context menu opens?
If you try and drag the chart around the screen, does this freeze and turn gray for a moment before it moves?
This might not be related to performance. You might be seeing delayed data or you may have a PC Clock that is not in sync with internet time (so data is improperly time stamped).
May I confirm you subscribed to real-time data with the broker or data provider you are connected to?
Compare your PC Clock with https://www.time.gov/
Sync the PC Clock:- Shutdown NinjaTrader *important
- Windows 10
- Navigate to the Windows Control Panel
- Select Clock and Region -> then click 'Set the time and date'
(Or click 'Date and Time' if this is visible) - Click on Internet Time tab
- In the Server: drop-down select time.nist.gov
- Click Update
- Windows 11
- Open Settings
- Click on Time & language.
- Click the Date & time page on the right side.
- Under the “Additional settings” section, click the Sync now button.
- If the message that appears says 'successful', your PC clock should now be updated
If not, select a different server from the Server: drop-down and try again (repeat until one of the servers is successful) - Restart NinjaTrader
- Connect to a data feed
- Reload All Historical Data *important
- Click tools -> Historical Data
- Right-click Historical -> select Delete

I believe the chart lag indicator, which itself is a 3rd party indicator so who knows how reliable it is, measures the time difference between your computer's clock and the timestamp on the data feed.Originally posted by Alesiosc View Post

One easy thing you can do to check if your computer's time is good is log into www.ninjatrader.com because sometimes there will be a popup that says "your computer time is out of sync". Easy way to check I think.

I’ve been using it every day since it was released and can attest to its reliability

I also use the chart lag indicator, and sometimes I even have 30 seconds delay. I asked the NT support about this, and they told me to check the bid/ask price in the chart trader and compare it to the actual price on the chart. If there is any delay, they I have "Rendering Delay" bc of too many indicators or workspaces. Blaming everything on user like always. Yeah right, NT needs 1-30 seconds for rendering. You cant prove anything to them. I sync my clock automatically every 10 minutes. And even if I don't, I still encounter delays of more than 1 second occasionally. I dont even bother now, it happens few times a week. Most of the time it goes away, if not I just restart NT, and everything works fine again.

#Leroy_Jenkins - FYI/FWIW, I’ve used DOMs for order entry/management since before chart trader was introduced, and whilst chart trader would allow me to reduce workspace complexity (always desirable) and other nice to haves I’d never switched (other than to test, familiarise).
Not long ago, with a stable lag free setup truly tried and tested I decided I would take another look at chart trader. I put it on one chart/instrument and yes, you guessed it, lag. Took it off, no lag. Put it back on again, lag. So it sits on the naughty step where it will remain.
“have "Rendering Delay" bc of too many indicators or workspaces. Blaming everything on user like always”
Yes, in my experience NT will NEVER point to themselves, to anything regarding limitations or shortcomings with the platform - which often times would be helpful to do so.
To know that Chart Trader is relatively quite resource-consuming (compared with the DOM, from a rendering perspective) allows you to make informed choices when hitting limits.
I found the same to be true when ‘indicators on the DOM’ was introduced with release of 8, likewise alerts - both a complete disaster that ground everything to a halt. ‘It’s your 3rd party indicators…’. Wasn’t using any.
If you’re finding lag to be a problem, I’d humbly suggest trying without chart trader and see if it makes a difference if you want to eliminate the lag. If it doesn’t, nothing lost, if it does, at least you have a bit of a smoking gun and can think about where you might go next….
Hope this helps

This NT8 platform sucks, this lagging continues getting worse and worse. We all have to change to tradingview and trash NT8 for sure. Let's do a massive walkout and leave NT for good. It's never their system, always want to blame the customers, "indicators" "strategies" what's the point to use indicator or strategies if the trash of NT can't handle it. Ridiculous, NT8 is useless..

It seems to freez up around open with a lot of Quotes.. NQ, for example. One chart, 3 native indicators. Click to zoom.. it takes minutes to do anything.. Close a position.. it sits there, then fills at who knows what price.. I actually avoid zooming out, knowing if I zoom out too far, it could take 10 minutes to respond. When I zoom in and have, say 50 candles, it's much better. 32 Gig, I7, 2070 machine.. Getting disillusioned here.. Trading is hard enough already.. Could the message be to TRADE less often, forget market orders..? LOL..

Hello Attila,
The system freezing is a clear indication of overutilized resources available from the computer.
Try closing all open workspaces. In a new blank workspace open a new 1 minute chart with no template applied to the instrument of your choice. Do not add any indicators, strategies, or drawing objects.
At this point no scripts at all should be running.
Wait for the high volume cpu intensive market open and place a manually submitted market order.
Is there any delay on the chart or with the order filling?Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service

I have been experiencing this same issue as everyone else. I see on reddit people making the same complaints.
Even when I have NO indicators, sometimes in periods of high volatility and volume I experience significant lag of the charts but especially tick volumetric data. It most commonly happens on days when there is elevated volume and volatility for example FOMC days or days where there is an economic news release. Every now and then it will also happen on a normal day near the RTH open (9:30 EST), but that is relatively uncommon. Note that it doesn't just happen around the time of the news release but lasts for a period of sometimes several hours of the day. It makes Ninjatrader completely useless and I now have to have ThinkorSwim open just to verify that Ninjatrader is printing the candles correctly before taking trades. I am beyond disappointed as I spent $1,000 for a lifetime license.
I run NT8 on a new Lenovo P16s, a business workstation laptop that far exceeds the minimum specifications
