NT8 crashes when trying to import indicator zip file

I've tried to import several different indicators and they all get the attached message and then NT8 immediately crashes. What is confusing is that the zip file for the indicator is in the Download folder (see image) but the message in the photo says otherwise. This message pops up for only a few seconds before ninja crashes so I had to quickly take a photo before everything disappeared.

I have no idea what I may be doing wrong or what to do. What do you suggest?

I unlinked Onedrive and verified with file exployer that the Download folder is not in the Onedrive path. I shutdown and restarted Windows 11 and tried again to install an indicator zip file and got the same error as before. NT8 still shows Onedrive in the path, as in the first post. Not only that but the path that NT8 shows is C:\Users\chard\OneDrive\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\tmp\Import\Backup. The indicator file is in the Download folder. Why is NT8 looking in the wrong place? I'm using NT8 version 8.1.3.1 64-bit.

I also had to reconnect Onedrive because when I unlinked it I lost my Documents folder from File Explorer.

      Any other thoughts?

The NinjaTrader product provides very little assistance in this matter.

The product is 100% OneDrive ignorant and is not engineered to avoid
        these problems
-- NT mgmt refuses to believe fixing any of these
        incompatibility issues is their responsibility.

The NinjaTrader support team will be along shortly to tell you how to
        'properly' disengage OneDrive.

You are not the first to have stumbled.

        Good luck.

            Hello C_Hardy,

            Thank you for reaching out.

Please note that files access issues are typically local system / file directory issues which we are limited in troubleshooting as we are not PC/Windows technicians.

That being say, you can try ro resolve this issues by moving your Documents folder to your local hard drive on your PC using the following instructions:
            • Completely close NinjaTrader
            • Hover your mouse over the OneDrive icon (the cloud) in the App Tray
            • Right click and select Settings
            • Locate the 'Backup' tab
            • Under the 'Documents' Folder, select 'Stop backup'
After stopping the backup, you will need to copy the NinjaTrader 8 folder from the original OneDrive Documents location onto the local PC.
            • Go to your Documents folder
            • Locate the 'Where are my files' icon
            • Right click and select 'Open in new window'
            • Locate the NinjaTrader 8 folder from within the OneDrive location
            • Copy and paste the entire NinjaTrader 8 folder into the documents folder on your local hard drive
It is best to have one window open with the OneDrive documents location and one window open with the local PC documents location to achieve this.

Once you have moved all of the NinjaTrader 8 files over, you will need to do a 'soft reinstall of NinjaTrader Desktop.
            • In the search field on your Windows taskbar, type Control Panel and select this app
            • Select Programs > Programs and Features
            • Locate NinjaTrader in the list, right click, and select uninstall

Once these steps are completed, download and install NinjaTrader Desktop by logging in to your user dashboard with the following link:

After you log in, please click the Download button in the bottom left corner and click the Download button on the Desktop Application Download page.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

I went through the procedure outlined by NinjaTrader_Erick but it still didn't work, although Onedrive was now gone. Perhaps I made a mistake? I don't know. I stopped backup on the Documents folder, moved the NT8 folder to local hard drive under Documents (see image), uninstalled NT8 and reinstalled (see today's date in image). I attempted to import an indicator zip file from the Downloads folder but ended up with the same path error as before even though Onedrive is no longer in the path (see image). Question is: why is the Documents folder in the path at all since the zip file is in the Downloads folder? Doing this procedure also results in losing the Documents folder from Onedrive and all its contents which isn't a workable solution. So, i ended up turning on Onedrive again to at least get my contents back. Funny thing is two weeks ago I had no problem importing zip files. I imported at least five indicator files then. Why all this trouble now? What next?

                Hello C_Hardy ,

                Thank you for your message.

I am sorry unlinking OneDrive did not resolve this issue.

In this case, you may need to completely re-install NT8 "clean" to get rid of this error.

You may follow the steps listed below to completely uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader clean, and then transfer your custom information to the new installation if you wish.
                • Close all running applications.
                • Navigate to your Documents folder > Right-click on the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder > Rename > rename the folder to 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD'. DO NOT delete this folder.
                • Uninstall NinjaTrader within Windows Control Panel.
                • Navigate to C:\ > Program File (x86) > Delete the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder if it exists
                • Reboot your PC.

                Then reinstall
                • Login into the NinjaTrader Account Dashboard
                • Click "Download" in the bottom left-hand corner of the sidebar
                • Once the installation had downloaded, ensure any previous version of NinjaTrader is closed before running the installation package.

This will now be a "brand new" platform when you launch it.

Please launch, login, and connect. Open a chart to see if it is loading properly.

If everything works, you may follow these steps to reimport your old, custom information to the new installation if you wish.

First, shut down NinjaTrader, then open the new 'NinjaTrader 8' Documents folder in one window, and the 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD' folder in another (right-click > Open in New Window).

In the new 'NinjaTrader 8' folder, rename the 'workspaces', 'templates', and 'bin' folders to 'workspaces NEW', 'templates NEW', and 'bin NEW'

Next, copy/paste the existing 'workspaces', 'templates', and 'bin' folders from the 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD' folder into the new 'NinjaTrader 8' folder.

Please note that if the issue is re-introduced when you copy over your custom files, the issue would point to a possibly "corrupt" workspace or custom scripts affecting platform functionality.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Okay, I did the above procedure and NT8 starts up, my charts are working and all seems well, UNTIL I try to import an indicator zip file. But, unlike the last time, I get the first message as seen in the attachment, not the same as before, which is progress. So, I use the installer file and go through the Repair process which ran fine. In the NinjaScript Editor I then tried the Compile procedure and it gave me a listing of at least 3000 errors, almost all CS0246 and CS0234. So, we got past the previous path problem I was having to this new problem. I can shutdown and restart Ninja okay.

                  What do I do now?

I also want to add another issue: I have some 3rd party license indicators that the licenses information didn't make the transition to the new NT8 install. In looking in the Config.xml file in the OLD Ninjatrader 8 folder I can see the <VendorLicenses> information for these vendors. In the new Ninjatrader 8 folder it has a Config file but not a Config.xml file. How can I properly get the vendor license information from the OLD Ninjatrader 8 into the new Ninjatrader 8 folder?

                      Hello C_Hardy,

                      Thank you for your message.

This error is caused when NinjaTrader is searching for a reference to a .dll file, and the reference does not exist.

Below I have included the steps to resolve these compile errors:
                      • Right-click within the NinjaScript Editor window and select "References".
                      • Click "Add".
                      • Locate the .dll file for the file mentioned in the error ("TheTradingMantisTools.dll" & and any others for which you see error CS0246. Once you resolve this main class of errors, when you compile, all others should be resolved as well).
                      • Click "Open" to add the reference.
                      • Click "OK" and recompile.
                      • Repeat until there are not more compile errors
Also for your reference I have included a link to a video demonstrating these steps:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I would guess that if you shut down NT8 and remove the new config file, and then copy over the Config.xml files from the OLD NinjaTrader folder, this may correct this issue with Vendor Licensing.

Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance.

                        Hello.

There is someone in my group having this exact same issue at the moment when importing any script. We have tried my product and even some free open source scripts.

Everytime we get the 'Unhandled Exception. Could not find part of the path. C:/ Users/Heath/OneDrive/Documents/NinjaTrader8/tmp/ImportBackup.
Fllowed by the Duplicate Method names error. Ninja just shuts down.

We tried the following the steps above but are having trouble at the "Locate the 'Where are my files' icon" step. This doesn't seem to appear in that folder.

Do you happen to have a quick video on how these steps are supposed to look like. Maybe we are missing something.

                        It would be much appreciated!
                        Thank you.

I am pleased to report that everything seems to be working okay now. All the references have been resolved and I can import indicators now, Also, my 3rd party licensed indicators are working okay, at least the ones I've tried.

Thanks for your help. I hope I won't need your for a while.

Hi, I am have a similar issue to some others here but with discrepancies. The platform crashes when I try import an indicator. I have uninstalled and reinstalled NT8. I tried to stop back up on OneDrive and then the platform wouldnt open at all until I turned it back on. And when I go to NinjaScript Editor and right click and compile nothing gives me an error to fix. I have a screen shot but I might be hard to read.

First error - Unhandled exception: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\User\bobby\OneDrive\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\tmp\Import\Backup'.
Second error - Import Failed. The NinjaScript Archive File may contain duplicate method names that already exist on your PC, modify a method signature that other scripts were dependent on, or be missing a required file on either your PC or in the import archive.

I dont get any error window pop up, the platform just closes as soon as i click open on the indicator from my downloads file.

                              Thanks
