NT8 not opening after logging in!
My NJ8 stopped opening all of a sudden and I've tried changing db file to OLDNinjaTrader and tried to "repair" etc. and tried all other things posted on different forums, but still no luck! I click on "Sign in with Google" as always, but the platform does not come up! How can I make this work without losing my saved workspaces/indicators/etc.?Last edited by rezamerik; 08-23-2023, 10:35 AM. -
Hello rezamerik &
Goody789
Thank you for writing in.
To rule out that there are issues with your core files/NinjaTrader Installation, I recommend you try a platform repair first, and if this does not resolve it, then you would want to try installing NT8 "clean".
1. To complete a repair, do the following:- Shut down NinjaTrader 8
- Go to your computer's Control Panel > Programs & Features (Note: search for 'Control Panel' to find it within the Windows Start Menu. This will be a different window than the Settings page)
- Left-click once on NinjaTrader 8 > select 'Repair' above the list of available programs
- Restart the platform after it finishes repairing, and test for this behavior again. If it does, proceed to step 2.
2. You may follow the steps listed below to completely uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader clean, and then transfer your custom information to the new installation if you wish.- Close all running applications.
- Navigate to your Documents folder > Right-click on the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder > Rename > rename the folder to 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD'. DO NOT delete this folder.
- Uninstall NinjaTrader within Windows Control Panel.
- Navigate to C:\ > Program File (x86) > Delete the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder if it exists
- Reboot your PC.
Then reinstall- Login into the NinjaTrader Account Dashboard
- Please create a login ("account") by creating an Username and Password and verifying your email address.
- Click "Download" in the bottom left-hand corner of the sidebar
- Next you can either pick the latest release, or the previous release 8.0.28.0found on the right hand side of the page and click Download.
- Once the installation had downloaded, ensure any previous version of NinjaTrader is closed before running the installation package.
This will now be a "brand new" platform when you launch it.
If everything works, you may follow these steps to reimport your old, custom information to the new installation if you wish.
First, shut down NinjaTrader, then open the new 'NinjaTrader 8' Documents folder in one window, and the 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD' folder in another (right-click > Open in New Window).
In the new 'NinjaTrader 8' folder, rename the 'workspaces', 'templates', and 'bin' folders to 'workspaces NEW', 'templates NEW', and 'bin NEW'Next, copy/paste the existing 'workspaces', 'templates', and 'bin' folders from the 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD' folder into the new 'NinjaTrader 8' folder.
Please note that if the issue is re-introduced when you copy over your custom files, the issue would point to a possibly "corrupt" workspace or custom scripts affecting platform functionality.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.Erick P.NinjaTrader Customer Service

rezamerik divemom Goody789 I went into documents and renamed the Ninja folder to 'Ninja Trader old' and then went to do the repair in control panel. It's now working for me but not with the old files. I raged and deleted it all so now I'm gonna be spending like an hour to redo it all tomorrow. The app opens now though so it is what it is. Thank you NinjaTrader_Erick

Some people in the chat groups I'm in were having this problem too and it turned out it was because they needed to update their Apex Copier. If anyone is having problems opening NinjaTrader and they use Apex, then try to re-run the Apex Desktop Assistant and install the latest Apex Toolkit.
Also, try to delete the UI file located in the NinjaTrader 8 folder in My Documents.

Hello All!
backtester831 &Pivotman
Are correct, in that there was a reported issue where the Apex Investing toolkit was impeding the platform from launching.
To confirm that there are not any 3rd party softwares stopping NT8 from launching, please try running a Safe Mode Test
If you do not have any 3rd parties installed and the platform still will not respond when you click the icon:
To resolve this, I would advise you try to reset your UI file:
-Shut down NinjaTrader 8
-Go to Documents -> NinjaTrader 8 -> UI.xml
-Highlight the UI.xml file -> Right Click -> Rename -> OldUI.xml
Then try to launch NT8 Desktop once again.
If it still will not launch, additionally run a platform repair.
- Here is a video I made for your reference.https://www.screencast.com/t/5RH7MjuaQiG
Please me know the results of this test. I look forward to your response.

Hello mfzillln,
Thank you for reaching out.
I agree with backtester831 here on testing in Safe Mode as a start.
Please try testing your platform in Safe Mode to verify if this behavior is being caused by a 3rd-party add-on or isolated to the last active workspace, using the steps below.
Safe Mode will prevent NinjaTrader from:- Loading workspaces and connecting on start-up.
- Loading custom assemblies (i.e. 3rd-party add-ons and NinjaScripts)
- Getting instrument updates from the server
To enable Safe Mode, you can use the following steps:- Shut down NinjaTrader.
- Click on the Windows Start Button
- Search for and Launch NinjaTrader (Safe Mode)
- You may then verify you are in Safe Mode by going to Help -> About.
Once you have opened the platform in Safe Mode:- Reconnect to your Data Provider
- Please open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates and test for issues.
Does the behavior persist on this blank Workspace in Safe Mode?- If not, please try opening your previous workspace by going to the Control Center > Workspaces drop-down. It may already show as being open. Hit 'close' and do not save and then re-open it again for your windows to re-appear. You will notice that no 3rd-party add-ons are running in Safe Mode.
Does the behavior return on your regular Workspace in Safe Mode?- If not, restart NinjaTrader, and test for the behavior on your Workspace normally once more with your 3rd-party add-ons available. If this reintroduces issues, I suggest rebuilding your workspace, adding 1 add-on at a time.
- Please keep track of what add-ons you add back in to identify the cause of the behavior if it returns.
If it does not return, it indicates the error was isolated only to your other Workspace. I also suggest making a backup of your workspace so we can restore a working version of it if the issue returns. You will want to keep this backup file on an external hard drive or uploaded to a cloud drive such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
To create a backup, go to the Control Center > Tools > Export > Backup File. Additional information about backups may be read in our Help Guide linked below.
Please let me know the results of this test. I look forward to your response.Erick P.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly.
All these steps worked:

- Getting instrument updates from the server

But when I tried to restart NT8 regularly, it was not able to open on its own. Safe Mode worked fine no issues.
What is my next step from here if I am unable to open in regular workspace?

Hello mfzillln ,
Thank you for your message.
This specifc startup issue was reported to be caused by Apex Toolkit users.
If you want to continue using the Apex Add-ons and indicators, you will want to reach back out to Apex for further help and information on updating the toolkit so you can use the platform with their software again.
Otherwise, you will need to remove all of the Apex add-ons from your platform for it to be able to open again.- First, make sure NinjaTrader is fully closed and not in the background:
- Right-click on the Windows Start Icon > Click "Task Manager"
- Click on "More details" to expand the window. If it says "Fewer details", ignore this step, it is already showing More
- Once NinjaTrader is highlighted in blue, click on the "End Task" button
- If you don't see it, then it is already closed you are ready to move to the next step
- Now, remove the Apex Add-ons:
- Go to the Documents Folder > NinjaTrader 8 > bin > Custom
- Scroll down and then Remove all of the files that have the word "Apex" in them
- You can either drag them out of this folder and drop them on your Desktop
- Or, highlight and Delete them.
- Do not Delete or remove any other files from here.
Once all of the Apex files have been removed, try opening NinjaTrader again and you should be ready to go.
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.
Have a wonderful day!
