This must be an error.. changing of the ATM strategies by switching charttrader tabs

    Hi,

Maybe it is a setting, maybe it is an error in NT8... But the following is very annoying and already costs me money.

I like to have the chart trader open with multiple tabs (each one contains a future I like to monitor and trade). The problem is if you set in tab 1 an ATM strategy it will also change that for the other tabs. Or sometimes it will set the other to None... This is a huge problem and totally unlogical. In the properties you can select 3 options on the behaviour of the ATM in charttrader. but not one of these will fixate the ATM per tab. So please fix this. I can't believe I would be the only one having problem with this behaviour.

    cheers

    Hello basanca,

Thank you very much for your post.

Having performed a few tests I have not yet been able to reproduce any issues.

Could you send me your current workspace? I'd like to see if I can recreate any issues with your settings.

You can do this by going to the Control Center -> Help -> Email Support

Please select "Platform Technical Support" as the recipient and enter a brief "ATTN Manfred" note in the message.

Please also click on "Other files" and ensure the Workspace has been included. Please leave the "Log & trace files" included as well.

Thank you in advance, I look forward to your reply!

      Fix what?
I mean, the behavior you describe is not a bug.

I would venture to say the current behavior was a conscious design decision.

That is, I would imagine the design choices at the time were fairly straight
forward -- either Chart Trader is a global thing in the chart window or Chart
Trader is a local thing associated with each tab.

If it's a global thing, then you turn it on/off and it's visible for all tabs in the
chart window, and all the settings are the same/shared for each tab.

If it's associated with each tab, then you have to enable/disable Chart Trader
on a per tab basis, and all the settings are a per tab thing.

So, it appears they chose to associate Chart Trader with the chart window
(making it global for all the tabs), but you'd rather have Chart Trader associated
with each tab so that each tab can have it's own independent Chart Trader
      settings.

      [EDIT:
Actually, it appears they did a hybrid design, which probably confuses the user.
Each tab can independently enable/disable visibility of Chart Trader, but yet
all tabs share the same settings because Chart Trader settings are global to
      the entire chart window.]

I think your suggestion/desire is a fine idea.
It has its pro's and cons, but I like it.
      I really do.

The issue is, the per-tab-idea is not the design decision they chose.

Like everyone else, you'll have to learn to to live within the confines of
the product as-is, because many user suggestions on many topics are
simply ignored through necessity, or ignored through arrogance.

Unfortunately, I dare say this relatively fine suggestion will get a feature
request number [EDIT: it already exists, see posts below], garner a few
votes here and there, and then will become just another member of the
graveyard of user suggestions, never to be heard from again.

      -=o=-

In the meantime, I think you'll have to chalk this one up as an error on
your part -- personal education and product mastery of your chosen
trading platform (warts and all) is each user's own responsibility.

      To wit,
Chart Trader visibility is a per-tab setting.
But settings in the Chart Trader panel are global to the chart window.

      Just my 2˘.

Not sure why NT support can't replicate it but it's very easy to replicate in 8.0.28. Maybe it's changed in 8.1.1.7 and that's why they can't replicate?

I raised this same issue with support three years ago in 2020.

Namely can we have different ATM strategies apply to individual chart tabs.
Local to each tab rather than globally to the whole chart window as bltdavid has explained.

I was told this will be submitted as a "feature request" and was given the tracking ref number SFT-2060.

          Dated: 2020/04/09 (9th April 2020)

          "Thanks for your patience.

The internal tracking number for your feature request is SFT-2060. Please reference this internal tracking number when contacting Platform Support if you ever have questions regarding this feature request.

When a feature request is implemented, you'll find a description of the new feature in the release notes"

Not that anyone else would know that in the absence of any specific sticky threads dealing with feature requests.

This improvement suggestion was requested in 2018 and has been subsequently discussed in several threads, for example here. Search for "SFT-2060". But as is typical with product improvement suggestions from users, don't expect to see it addressed by NT development staff in your lifetime.

7 year old feature request. LOL

When will this finally be implemented?

                It would be so helpful.
