Chart Trader Account dropdown
Hi I have two sim accounts.. the one that comes with Ninja, and a second I created. I have two separate charts in tabs... one for MES one for MNQ.. my problem is while using chart trader for each tab it wont let keep each chart on separate accounts in the drop down... if I say change account to Sim101 in one chart for MES it automatically changes the account to Sim101 in the chart of the other tab as well... so if both charts have active trades I have to keep changing the dropdown account to view...is it possible to have each chart trader display each account independently of the other?Tags: None

Well, actually, I very much agree.Originally posted by nesteggtrader View Postthanks.. seems so counter productive.....
In fact, I think it surprises most everybody when they
learn the Chart Trader settings in the panel are global
to the chart window.
I would surmise that most user's first assumption is that
the Chart Trader settings are a per tab thing -- and they
find it surprising that their user interface educated guess
is actually wrong.
To me, it was very surprising, and little bit disturbing, too.
I was a big NT7 user, so when I first started using NT8
I would set the Chart Trader to certain values on tab A,
then use different values for tab B, since tab B was a
different instrument. This is what everybody first does.
I was disturbed and annoyed that my tab B settings had
'overwritten' the settings in tab A. I expected and assumed
these settings would be unique per tab, and was rather
pissed to discover my best 'first guess' was wrong.
Yep, having per-tab Chart Trader settings would have
been an easy decision to justify -- why the per-tab idea
did not win the internal design arguments back in the
early days of NT8 planning is an untold mystery.
And ... quite frankly ... it's a human interfaces software
engineering embarrassment. The per-tab settings is
the better choice, yet that's not what they did.
Arrrrgh!

Oh, and don't forget this little gem:
If you trade with more than 1 contract, you just might
change the Quantity setting in Chart Trader to, say, 3,
since you've advanced and 3 is your new default number
of contracts ... so far, so good.
But, guess what?
After you enter a trade, that '3' changes to a '1'.
WTF?
Why would NT8 do that?
The NT7 Chart Trader didn't do that!
Why do I always have to set Quantity back to '3'?
I've set it to '3' so why won't it stay at '3'?
Oh, you mean it's a 'feature' that NT changes it to '1'?
That's not a feature, that's a bug.
Somewhere, someone decreed this is the new behavior
for the NT8 Chart Trader -- this idea also stinks.
-=o=-
As a software engineer with over 30 years of experience,
these are human interface bugs. When the human sets a
value into Chart Trader, it should stay that value until the
human changes it again. Why? Because that's the way the
user's mind works -- we get surprised and annoyed when
software reverts our human set value -- your brain says
it is '3' because that's what you set it to, but no, the
damn software 'knows better' and changes it for you.
My point is:
all of Chart Trader should be human set values only.
Why NT thinks it's ok for their software to change them,
or why the per-tab settings idea was not implemented,
these are really dumb decisions in the user interface dept.
Just my 2˘.

To clarify is the Order qty changing to 3 after you enter your position or after you are flat?
If this is changing after entering your position right click in the Chart Trader panel->Properties->Confirm "Scale quantity" is set to 0 then click Ok.
If the Order qty is changing after going flat this would revert back to the ATM Strategy template settings that were saved when using the ATM strategy selection mode "Select active ATM strategy on order submission". To change this so the Order qty remains right click in the Chart Trader panel->Properties->Select "Keep selected ATM strategy template on order submission" from the ATM strategy selection mode drop down menu then click Ok.Last edited by NinjaTrader_ChristopherJ; 08-02-2023, 12:00 PM.Christopher J.NinjaTrader Customer Service
