Another perfect example of Ninjatrader directives coming from marketing / management and never having even been tested on, or feedback sought, from the users who actually use the platform for real, daily trading.
I won't ask for my vote to be added. In my decade of using the platform, I've never actually seen a feature request implimented!

Wait? WHAT? I mean just a few weeks ago we heard from NT8 support that platform users were clamoring for security to be added to the platform.. And that is was indeed a requested feature that was highly sought after and up voted... LOL... Even though "Ask password on connect" has been around like since FOREVER which was the equivalent...Originally posted by pjsmith View PostAnother perfect example of Ninjatrader directives coming from marketing / management and never having even been tested on, or feedback sought, from the users who actually use the platform for real, daily trading.

Meanwhile, I can't save a chart template with tabs... I searched the forum for security requests, and I was left wanting...
We all know why the feature voting list isn't public... You only have to be around a little while to know that if it were made public, then Management and Development would have to defend their choices of the stupid things they do that don't add any real value to my trading and use of the platform...Last edited by brenthilburn; 06-11-2023, 10:57 AM.

Hello QuantKey_Bruce,
Thanks for your notes.
There are currently feature requests with more than 37 votes at this time.
That said, it is up to the Development team on when they will implement this feature. As previously stated there are many factors involved including but not limited to:- Demand which is measured by objective user requests and subjective discretion on the part of our Product Management team.
- Feasibility
- Developer bandwidth
- Current projects in the queue
- Economics

There are many feature requests in the last year with more than 37? I'm sure there are from years ago... things that are longstanding that NT is just not going to do like update the C# version before a major release cycle or replace SharpDX. But, more than 37 in the last year from a current request? What's the most requested thing this past year and with how many requests? Is there a link?Originally posted by NinjaTrader_BrandonH View PostHello QuantKey_Bruce,

Can you give an exact number?Originally posted by NinjaTrader_BrandonH View PostHello QuantKey_Bruce,

How many of those are older than 3 years?
How many have been implemented?

QuantKey_Bruce jeronymite I'm pretty sure you guys are all smart people and i'm probably saying the obvious. But ninjatrader and any other company out there (think of your own) would be considering vote counts + business decisions = feature in product.
Look at other companies, take interactive brokers. Not only do you have to login every single time, but they even disconnect you after 24 hours and make you log in again. You can load up your NT8 platform at the beginning of the week and not have to login at all, ever, unless you restart. Far better than other companies.
So yes, you have every right to create a feature request - but i'm pretty sure you can understand that building a feature into a product goes well beyond a vote count and would also be combined on a business decision, more specifically involving things that you don't know about... maybe if you were one of their project managers, you could be making the same business decision ...
Take it easy
We all have to login to many things, companies... :-) Anyways, thats the last i'll say on that .. just food for thought.

All of this would be different if NinjaTrader had never had this, but NinjaTrader has supported restarting without signing in again for twenty years straight, and then suddenly, it is a problem. Many of us use automatic restart procedures and often need or provide remote support, and this is a definitey downgrade from the way it has always been, year after year, until suddenly in March 2023 a login was required. It has caused a lot of problems, and many are just refusing to upgrade to 8.1 because of it. But, no one new can use 8.0 for live trading, so it's created a split in the community between the haves that have 8.0 and the have nots that came along later, and if they want to start up automatically, have to consider automation or some hackish solutions like AutoIT, or they start looking elsewhere to solutions that do support automated restart. NinjaTrader natively supported startup without signing in again (once you already have your credentials in) for TWENTY YEARS... it's not like we're asking for something new - we're asking for something to be put back that they took away.Last edited by QuantKey_Bruce; 06-12-2023, 09:14 AM.

there are lots of good reasons to do this... It's a security risk when dealing with real money not to have a login. Name one financial institution that doesn't make you authentic yourself? Right? So maybe the better question. Is why did they not do it sooner? And to thank them for securing things.
If you think of it from a business point of view, there's not that many people complaining about it compared to total number of users they have ... So if you use something like autohotkey to script the login, your problem is solved and can move on... That's why those programs exist as you know.
so let's thank them for enabling some sort of security and making things easier by not having to worry about license keys in the future.

Sierra Chart comes immediately to mind. Just like NinjaTrader (up until March, or even now using 8.0) I can restart SC using a batch file or by clicking once on the icon and it remembers the username and password and logs me right back in and it can easily be configured to auto-restart the chartbooks (workspaces) and restart live trading. This is after I've checked the boxes to accept repsonsibility and chosen to have it do this. I should have the right to accept that responsibility myself. TradeStation is notable for having early-adopted the username and password thing, but that is really only the illusion of security, because a hacker can fairly easily spoof your email and your mobile phone number and circumvent the whole thing entirely - resetting your password, draining your account, etc. and you would never even know. The best security is tied to the device e.g. you're connecting from your phone and your phone is already a trusted device. A username and password leaves you vulnerable to someone simply spoofing to pass the 2FA and then they just change your password and your phone number and it's all over. But if the device you're connecting from has already been confirmed with whatever the highest security that's supported is, and you're not trying to change your account or make a withdrawal, etc., and you just want to restart your trading systems, you should be permitted to without further delay. Every second you're down is a second you're not reacting to market events.Last edited by QuantKey_Bruce; 06-12-2023, 10:00 AM.
