Overall, Kinetick has been extremely reliable. I have been using NT (legacy user) with Kinetick for almost a decade. I have also used Bloomberg, Reuters, and a few others in parallel. I think when Kinetick does go down it is a shock, simply because it has been so reliable. Not to say that it shouldn't strive to be 100% reliable given the business we are in, but they do deserve credit for a long track record of reliability.

P.S. Can't post without crediting Ray with the NT8 code base. NT8 was and is still a masterpiece of parallel processing code.

You must be a VERY lucky person. I truely envy you because I trade ES only and I still don't see NT8 and kinetick are solid.
I've started to use NT + Kinetick since the NT8, taking on the hype of mutlithreading, parallel processing. I must say, it was bumpy.
Take out NT8, Kinetick has been in problems in the recent years. I have reported here and feel tired of it.

There is a bug in Kinetick login code. I have a very fast internet connection and Kinetick reconnection is a nightmare. The Kinetick reconnection system process is slow and kicks out a retry as if it's a double connection. This renders an infinite loop of retires. I have reported this for long long time and this has been the behaviour for the recent years. This truely kills me because any manual disconnection kills a strategy!!!!

It could be my network setup, I am based in the U.S. with connectivity in a data-center residing directly on a Teir-1 internet backbone with multiple hot redundancies. The internet never goes down, ever. Are the drops caused by Kinetick servers or the internet provider. Regardless, reconnects should be expected to be handled smoothly by NT8 and Kinetick.

As a matter of fact, my internet connection achieves 99,999% reliability. It's too easy for people (especially the Ninjatrader support/development team) to think a loss of connection is due mainly to poor internet connection. It's not the case.

Just like today, from 9:25am till now, 10:49am, I have already experienced loss of connection for over 3 times. This means kinetick is still unstable.

Also, the show stopper is NOT loss of connection. It's the *RECONNECTION*

If a system trys to reconnect to Kinetick too fast after a loss of connection, Kinetick is not able to handle and rejects the reconnection. I have already proposed to let user to set a time lag between retries but the NT development team (customer service team?) simply turned it down. Implementating such a setting needs 10 minutes and I do believe, the Kinetick login issue (almost always happens on turbulent days) is related to too many users tries to reconnect.

In this forum, users of 2 extremes. On one hand, there are those who claim to have direct access to solid internet connection, within nano second to NYSE. The other end of the spectrum are those who simply ask and leave. I don't think neither of them actaully serious users.

For a serious user, the primary focus on software are
          1. how reliable a connection to a data provider
          2. how reliable a connection to a broker
          3. how the application behaves and how fast the customer support team reacts

only with a good reputation of the above, functions and algorithms become meaningful

Me too, I get disconnected from Kinetick often, so my strategies or stop losses break up. Last time was this morning, I had a stop limit that didn't come in effect and I was disconnected when I arrived at my desk.

            ---

I asked Kinetick if they were taking action to make changes to better respond to outages next time it happens, I received this very cold answer:

            "Thank you for the inquiry.

This was an unexpected outage and we were in contact with the Development team at DTN as soon as we realized it was a widespread issue. Additionally clients were notified in the most timely manner possible.

Please let us know if you have further questions."

Like somebody else said here, it's beyond me how Kinetick does not seem to care at all about their duty to the customers. I am trying to find reasons to stay with them lol.

Zero disconnects today on my side, none showing up in my log either. Kinetick has been stable and no disconnects since connecting yesterday after globex open. Perhaps I have fewer hops to the kinetick servers, no idea really.

So it seems there is absolutely 0 follow up on this? No announcement or update from Kinetick since, no mention of anything from Ninjatrader neither. I guess it's just back to normal let's keep things the same way as they were before. Unless I missed something. Wellp!

I would hope NinjaTrader_Ray would make sure this is corrected:

Good afternoon, All of a sudden when connecting to Kinetick I get an error stating Unable to login. Please check your user name/password (Logon failed) I double checked them and they are correct, I then reset my password and still the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

I'm sure they are working on it and will be letting us know the solutions soon.

                    Hello All,

Thank you for your post and my apologies for not getting back sooner with more clarity on the situation.

The root cause of the issue was a small change made by Kinetick that caused our systems to be unable to connect.

After reviewing the entire situation we have put in place new systems and procedures to monitor this connection to ensure that it remains reliable.

We have also reviewed how we will communicate these issues once they are identified and ensure that the most up-to-date information is provided at all times.

Please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

Unfortunately it has happened again , 10 days without the possibility to use Kinetics because it doesn't connects to the server , and the only answer from Kinetics is that it might be a problem from the ISP , or maybe my computer... This is not the service I need , so today I decided after several years give up and cancel my subscription to Kinetics... I dont want to pay an extra month without geting data feed... neither support...

                          Hello David_A77,

                          Thank you for using NinjaTrader.

Today I am able to successfully connect to Kinectick and we are not receiving other reports of this outage.

Please follow the steps below to email me your log and trace files.
                          • Open Windows File Explorer (hotkey = Windows key + E) Then navigate to, "Documents" (sometimes called, "My Documents") > 'NinjaTrader 8' folder
                          • Right click on the 'log' and 'trace' folders and select Send To> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
                          • Send the 2 compressed folders as attachments to this email platformsupport[at]ninjatrader[dot]com ATTN: Dennis for the subject line.
                          • Once complete, you can delete these compressed folders.
Thanks in advance; I look forward to resolving this item.

Yes, Kinetick appears to have been down all morning for paid accounts. The free EOD data is online.

Kinetick is back up at this time which suggests this was routine maintenance or possibly a transition to support for 8.1.
