I have heard back from development and the situation where you currently need to click OK before the email settings will be applied on the Misc tab is being tracked for a change with ID # 2377 for our next major release.

Also, the improvement to get the text of the SMTP handshake to more accurately show what NinjaTrader is sending and the exact messages back from the server is being tracked with ID # 2378 for our next major release.

This feature request is still active and being considered by the Development Team. I will add your vote for these features. I have no further news or updates at this time.

We have changed the way we internally track feature requests. These are now under the ID: SFT-1356

I know this thread is old but I just ran into this problem and found out how to fix it for gmail in case anyone runs into this issue.

I was also getting the 5.5.1 error. Check your g-mail on the account you are trying to send it from, you will get an e-mail saying "Review blocked sign-in attempt". At the bottom of that e-mail you will see a link that says "allowing access to less secure apps" click that and turn it on and then it will send perfectly fine.
