Can you please close both NinjaTrader and TWS. Subsequently start only NinjaTrader and connect to IB. Does the issue still persist?

In order to further troubleshoot I would like to test your IB paper connection and check if I can find the cause of the issue. I will only test connection functionality - I will not submit any orders - I will leave Global Simulation Mode enabled.

      Jason,

I have tried your suggestion. The error messsage is the same. I have attached a screen shot of the error message.

I am not willing to post my user ID and password, even for my paper trading account.

I suggest to check for software that could be blocking the connection, such as (corporate) firewalls and anti-virus software.

Do you perhaps connect another application to TWS?

Could it be TWS and NinjaTrader are installed on two different machines?

          Jason,

I am not behing a corporate firewall. I turned off my antivirus software, but still have the problem.

I do have IB and NinjaTrader installed on another machine. The other machine has the same problems, but I do not have TWS or NinjaTrader running on both machines at the same time. I don't have any other applications that use TWS.

          Thanks.

Do you perhaps use a router in your connection setup? If so, please connect your PC directly to your modem and check if this will make a difference.

Please double check the TWS API options once more.

If the issue remains, I suggest to open TWS first and subsequently open NinjaTrader and connect to IB.

              Jason,

I don't use a router, but one may be built in to my modem, since I have multiple ethernet connections on the back of the modem.

I have double checked the TWS API settings and they look fine.

                Hi Double Bogie,

By the sounds of it, this modem is using a built in router. In some cases, routers will use an internal firewall - this could explain the blocking.

If opening TWS prior to opening NT and connecting in that order is not an option, perhaps your ISP could provide more information about bypassing or creating exceptions within any internal firewall which may exist.

                  Kyle,

I do have a firewall in my modem.

But I am confused about this firewall issue. I'm not sure what the firewall could be blocking, since I can start TWS manually with no issue. Doesn't NinjaTrader just start the TWS application rather than my starting it manually.

Yes, if 'Auto logon' is enabled, TWS should automatically start when you connect to IB. Are you saying this does not occur on your end?

Do you perhaps have a different modem you can temporarily use and check if this will resolve the connection issue?

                      Jason,

I do have auto logon enabled. It starts trying to connect to IB and then that is when the popup appears with the error message described in the first email in this thread.

I don't have another modem, but I can take my laptop down to Starbucks and try loging on there and see what happens.

Yes, can you please test the laptop in a public place as you mention and let me know the outcome.

If the issue remains, I would suggest to uninstall NinjaTrader and TWS completely and try two brand new installations. Let me know if you like to proceed this way.

                          Jason,

I tried my laptop at a public wireless location and I had the same issue I uninstalled NinjaTrader 6.5 and TWS and reinstalled. Still the same problem.

I have this problem on two machines with both NinjaTrader 6.5 and NinjaTrader 7.

                            Hello Double Bogie,

Can you please check if the TWS API options are setup as per the instructions at the link below.

The error message indicates this is not the case. Make sure the options that are enabled in the screenshot are enabled in TWS on your end as well.

Let me know if the connection error perists.

                              Jason,

I have attached my setup for TWS. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, my screen does not look exactly like the one in the help file.

Unfortunately, I am not sure what is causing that error on your end then. I suggest to try a uninstall/re-install of both TWS and NinjaTrader and use two fresh new installations.

Uninstall NinjaTrader 6.5 via the Windows Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs (XP), Programs and Features (Vista).

Manually delete the C:\-->Program Files-->NinjaTrader 6.5 folder (if still exist)
Delete the My Documents-->NinjaTrader 6.5 folder.

Clear your browser cache and download and install NinjaTrader 6.5 at the link below while logged in under your name.
