    Unable to Connect to IB

    I am getting the following error message in a popup window when I try to connect to IB.

    Login failed: IB.Adapter.MessageLoop No connection could be made
    because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:7496

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Double Bogie,

    Can you please ensure you performed all instructions at the IB connection guide at the link below.


    Make sure you setup the TWS API settings accordingly as well.

    If the issue remains, can you please tell me if you connect any other application to TWS.

      Jason,

      I followed all of the instructions in the web page. There were a couple of options in the TWS configuration screen that do not show up in the help screens. I have attached a screen shot of my settings in TWS, which is the supported version.

        The TWS API settings are setup accordingly. Does the issue still persist if you now connect to IB? Please try a reboot of your PC as well.

        If the issue remains, can you please clarify if you have any other application that connects to TWS.

          Jason,

          The issue still persists. I rebooted and I still have the same problem. I do not have any other applications that connect to TWS. I am running Ver. 900.6 of TWS which I downloaded form your site.

            I had a similar problem some time before.

            Try the following:

            Update your DSL-Router with the newest firmware update.

                Hi Double Bogie,

                As a test, please take the following steps:
                • From the Control Center, click Tools > Account Connections.
                • Select your IB connection, then click Change.
                • Navigate to the screen where you entered your username and password. There within, delete the text in the field labled 'Host (optional)', then enter the word localhost.
                • Finally, click through the remaining screens in the wizard and let me know if the issue persists.

                    Hi Double Bogie,

                    If you load TWS and connect, then load NinjaTrader and attempt to connect do you run in to the same message?

                      If I open TWS first and connect to IB then open NinjaTrader, then I am able to connect to IB. Is this the required method?

                        Hi Double Bogie,

                        Thanks for the clarification.

                        This is not required, but could prove to be a useful work-around in the meantime.

                        Does your IB account use the security measure where numbers are verified against a key card, requiring you to enter a code?

                          My live account requires the entry of a security code, but my paper trade account does not. Both have the same problem.

                            Hello Double Bogie,

                            Could it be you do not have 'Auto logon' enabled as per the IB connections?

                            If this is enabled and the issue persists, can you please send me your paper trading account login credentials, so I can test the connection on my end. Please send it to support[at]ninjatrader[dot]com. Reference this forum thread and put 'Attn Jason' in the subject header.

                              I have the auto logon enabled. I have attached a gif of my setup.

                              I am not too keen on sending my login credentials.
