NT7 and NT6.5 in the same PC questions

Hello,

Not sure if this should go in the NT7 subforum. Mods can move if needed.

I understand NT6.5 and NT7 can be installed in the same PC. I want to compare apples to apples (chart plotting mainly) so i want to run both at the same time in the same machine. In order to plan my test i'd hope someone could confirm:

Can they both (NT6.5 and NT7) run simultaneously?

Can they both (NT6.5 and NT7) use the same data feed simultaneously?

Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately, this would not be possible on the same PC. You would need to use two PC's - one for each version of NinjaTrader.

Also, only some data providers allow for multiple simultaneous connections. If you're not sure if this is offered by your provider, I would suggest that you contact them directly.

I've been able to successfully run both simultaneously on same PC (Windows 7 x64) without need of virtual machine by renaming NinjaTrader 7 executable to NinjaTrader7.exe.

Ninja dev team should consider not having executable same name as prior version (NinjaTrader.exe for both 6.5 and 7.0) so those that can handle multiple connections to their broker feed (by using 2 different accounts for instance) can run the 2 instances simultaneously when verifying between platforms as I think many would want to do when upgrading their indicator/strategies from one to the other. This then allows one to do so easily without the heavy need of a virtual machine to accomplish same task on a PC.

Exactly what i was hoping for. Were you able to use the same data feed for both NT7 and NT6.5 simultaneously?
Besides renaming Ninjatrader 7 executable to NinjaTrader7.exe, are there any other changes that need to be made elsewhere? Any other issue to be aware of?

The only issue I'm aware of is when connecting with same datafeed and account (at least with ZenFire) will kick off the other connection. So can't run 2 live with same datafeed with same account (at least for ZenFire). What I had plan on doing was using one real live feed and another demo feed to accomplish testing between the 2.
