Reconnect after connection loss

I have had this same issue - I hear "connection lost", but it shows as still connected, but the prices are no longer moving. Happens several times per day and I have to manually disconnect and reconnect. I have emailed support about it, they said to fix my internet basically [yes I have internet issue, but the software should handle it gracefully]. Interestingly enough though, I have zero issues with Thinkorswim, Tradestation, Fidelity, and Tradovate. They ALL continue to work with no problems after the internet hiccup. I suggested to NT support that they leverage the Tradovate code for handling disconnects/reconnects. It seems infinitely more stable.

what version are you using? The NT support are like "is your problem". I noticed in my log that it disconnects exactly 24 hours after I connect it. Could you confirm if that happens to you too?

8.1.1.7 64-bit. Mine is random, I dont know if it is my internet or my particular network cards/drivers (both my primary and backup laptops are the same type, and both experience the issue.

seems they had a big update today with the connection bugs

I recently disabled my "Killer Network Service" (relevant to my particular HW), and have not had this issue since. My connection appears to be more stable across the board for all apps/games. Not sure if their update helped as well, but maybe.

Hello everybody,

can anyone recommend any solution? I am also having strategy running 24/7 and I get connectino loss many times a day. I run it on dedicated VPS but does not help anything.

How can solve:
1) strategy loses price then it attempts to entry but i get error - trying to place order when disconnected
2) i am in position, price gets lost, i want to exit position

Any best practices for this?

Hello -

I have the same problem as mentioned by several people above. NT disconnects while I am running an automated strategy and is unable to reconnect automatically.

I run other trading software, like Tradovate or Sierra Chart, and have never had issues like that. The other trading platforms always manage to reconnect automatically. On top of that my connection is in fact quite stable and I use Speedify to secure it.

Again, the problem happens only with NinjaTrader...

Please could you urgently provide a fix for this?

Hello, same problem here. I often end up in a state where even if my internet connection is up, reconnection doesn't happen. That's also proven by the fact that sometimes I connect to both live trading and simulation and only one of the two gets disconnected (randomly) while the other stays up, which is proof that the internet connection has nothing to do with the issue and also that the auto-reconnection feature doesn't work. This is seriously a huge deal breaker and at this point I'm evaluating other tools.

I keep having this disconnection issue myself. When I contacted NinjaTrader customer support, they copied and pasted their usual response, and as their default "solutions" didn't help, they advised me to get a VPS...

So I did actually get a subscription to a VPS service - QuantVPS to name it, which is dedicated to trading and located in Chicago, close to the CME. And guess what? I still get the regular disconnections and NinjaTrader is unable to reconnect on its own and goes into panic mode.

Sierra Chart (the best of the best IMHO) can always reconnect on its own even after a real serious loss of connection, Tradovate as well, or other trading platforms never undergo such a ridiculous situation. This is supposed to be a trading platform to manage our money!!!

True, I'm not paying anything yet to NinjaTrader as I am only using the simulation via prop firms. But I will NEVER open a brokerage account with NinjaTrader if they can't even provide a trading software that is actually reliable. RELIABLE - that should be the absolute minimum we shoudl be able to expect from a trading software, isn't it?
