Workspace Stuff...
Josh...
Just for the record....to recapitulate on naming workspaces....last night had 2 workspaces....A & B (B was just Control)...went to "New Workspace" and created new stuff ....it was then called "untitled 1" I believe...then went to "save workspace as" and gave it a name "C".
Then found A and B had become identical to C....only by deleting C was I able to luckily get things back to normal. There is something haywire so far with this process. Also find that "save workspace as" in making a second copy of A does not work...stuff gets very messed up.
Also...can one rename a workspace when NT7 is closed at >My Documents>NinjaTrader7>workspaces ??
Thanks...

Alfred,
Again I was unable to reproduce. Can you please provide exact steps from the very beginning starting from the creation of each of your workspaces? Please do this after you have closed NT and deleted all files from Documents\NinjaTrader 7\workspaces.
You should not manually rename these files.Josh P.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Workspace Rename Still Not Working
Josh...
I did as you suggested...deleted all old workspaces per your instructions.
Created 1 new main workspace, then saved as a second workspace (with an additional chart) under a new name, then saved that workspace as a 3rd one, again with a different name.
So far so good...worked OK this time as it should...
Then revised the original workspace a bit (formatting tool bars, scroll bar etc and revising templates) and added some chart graphic tools here and there. Then deleted the first 2nd copy and made a new second copy with a new name in the "Save Workspace as" area.
Then opening the original first workspace again, all the graphic tools are messed up..cannot format etc...get message Ninja must be shut down when trying to work with any graphic tool on a chart.
Then deleting the 2nd copy and going back to the first workspace graphic tools there now seem to work OK without the shut down message all the time....but now playing a bit more some graphic tools did not persist upon resart...and then adding those back and restarting again get a message NT must be shut down...looks like will have to start all over again with a fresh original workspace and not attempt to make any copies.
I have done this "Save Workspace As" routine a hundred times in 6.5 and never had a problem there....I do it exactly as described in the instructions in the NT7B5 Help section....there is something haywire in 7B5 on saving an initial workspace as a new name...perhaps especially so evidently when graphics tools are applied to the original....have had numerous odd workspace problems here as described in earlier posts below.
Starting with all fresh workspaces as you suggested did not make a difference.
Thanks....

At startup today, 4 charts (out of 10) stuck on "loading data"....one workspace.
Did a restore to yesterday and all still stuck.
Then went to >my documents>NT7>workspaces and deleted workspaces...then copied and pasted back in identical workspaces from a folder where I had saved copies of pristine new workspace files made Sunday evening....then started NT and live data and runs OK now with no stuck "loading data" windows.
Evidently it may be easy to corrupt workspace files as had only been using that set one day.
Thanks...

Re "Save Workspace As" problem discussed in several posts below...I cannot duplicate this problem so far on a single monitor setup...my problems are so far on a dual monitor setup with the control window on the secondary monitor...could this have something to do with the issue ??....again I never had a problem with 6.5 in this area....
Thanks...

2 Monitor Configuration...
Josh...the workspaces I have been having problems with to "save workspace as" have the Contol Center, DOM and Basic windows on monitor #2 of a 2 monitor set up.
If I move the Control Center to monitor #1 (and with nothing else on monitor #2) I can create a workspace on monitor #1 and "save workspace as" without a problem (so far, anyway).
It seems that when the Contol Center, DOM and Basic windows are on monitor #2 may be where the problem lies. Have you tested a workspace to "save workspace as" in this configuration with a 2 monitor set-up like this ??
Thanks for your time on this...
Update ...after deleting the new workspace created on monitor 1 as above and reopening my one original workspace I started to get intermittent messages that NT must be shut down when highlighting a graphic object to copy & paste, or perhaps move it. On another window attempting to place a new object, it would not apply...was stuck on the little application pen...after deleting all objects there could then apply a new object....this workspace was working OK before the "save workspace as" was created above.....guess this is afterall another method to duplicate the problem.
When the Contol Center, DOM and Basic windows are on monitor #2..."save workspace as" always works OK in NT6.5.
Thanks again...Last edited by Alfred; 12-16-2009, 07:45 AM.

Dual Monitor Problems ??...
Josh...
Left NT7B5 open after shutting down at market close today (it ran OK all day today)...connecting live on my dual monitor system at 7pm all charts go black. Restarted...still black charts when connecting live. Cannot reload historical or set up a new chart. Fortunately had saved workspace files from a clean build did 2 days ago...was able to easily get things running live OK with those. I have to do this almost every evening now, to make sure something will run the next day OK.
Now on another copy of NT7B5 on a single monitor machine...it started live this evening without a hitch. This is the same machine where one can "save workspace as" OK also.
I am beginning to think there is something haywire with NT7B5 on dual monitor set-ups...
Thanks...

Definite problems with workspaces
After reading this and a number of other threads it's clear that there's something wrong with the way that NT7B5 is handling the workspaces.
I am getting frequent hangups now - several times per hour.
Each time I have to shut down NT, rename the workspaces folder, create a new and empty workspaces folder. After a restart of NT and a shutdown I move the workspaces from the old, renamed folder into the new one.
NT fires right up and runs fine, for a while.
Still can't get that FESX to load no matter what I do.
