7B5 Some Charts Stuck Loading Data...

I had 1 workspace (in addition to another with just the Control Center in it) that was working OK at the close today. I shut down and restarted after hours and all charts came up OK again. Then I saved that workspace as another name. Then when I reopened the original workspace 3 of the charts are stuck in "loading data"....and in the renamed workspace the same 3 charts are now also stuck "loading data".

I can create a new chart that fills in OK just like one that is stuck loading data...all charts are simple charts not multi series...set to false equadistant spacing...

I had just renamed the NinjaTrader.sdf file before trying this to see if that helped, as have experienced this same problem before. I have been having problems with charts stuck in the "loading data" often at start up each day...with just 1 workspace...and I have to kill those charts and recreate them to get things running OK again.

    Any ideas or suggestions ??....thanks...

I have had a similar problem as of todays date (12/09/09 for me) on instrument SPI using a 24 hour template.

This is what didnt fix the problem....

    1. Restarting NT
    2. Deleting the last few days data from Data Manager and attempting to reload
    3. Checking for .Net updates and installing the latest
    4. Removal and clean install of NT7b5

I was able to open a new chart if I set the End Date back 1 day but any attempt to open a new chart with an End Date of today resulted in a continuous (not able to be Aborted) loading data msg on the chart and in the Control Center. NT had to be closed via Task Manager.

What did fix the problem (for the moment) was changing the Instrument Merge Policy to DoNotMerge from a Global Setting of MergeNonBackAdjusted.

Given that I suspected the Merge Policy I had earlier added the incoming contract to the Instrument List but without result.

I may be purely coincidental that changing the merge policy fixed the problem, but as a follow on question - how are the merge policies set?

Around the globe contracts will rollover at different times and there doesnt seem to be any place for the user to specify a policy set beyond the 3 selections contained in the Data tab within Options.

      Update...

Now..this morning when starting 7B5...the 3 charts stuck on "loading data" were still stuck after connecting to Zen Fire...but then as I deleted one to replace it I found an identical chart under it that was working fine !!....and precisely under all 3 charts that were stuck was an identical chart that was working OK !!...could there be something wrong with the "rename workspace as" process that causes this...??

Will play around with this later today and see if can reoroduce....had noticed similar odd problems like this with renaming a workspace before.

Incidentally....a rename workspace function by right clicking on a closed workspace in the Open Workspace window and renaming there has been mentioned....still in the works though ??

& rt-trader...thanks for the note...have set to merge back adjusted...but am only collecting 5 days data all charts currently and not saving as historical.

      Thanks...

        Alfred,

Would be interested in what you find in terms of reproducibility. Thanks.
As far as the workspace rename via right click is on our list of future considerations.

          Another Update...

          Josh...

Just took a more careful look at the original workspace had just renamed (before restarting) this evening & discovered 3 extra charts that were not there before the rename process. They had been hidden when first looked. No charts stuck in loading data this time though. Plus 1 chart crashed upon restart.

Also, even though have scroll bars are now on all large charts...it is possible to get significant compression on charts beyond what is expected...then when you redo the chart period the compression and expansion work properly. Some toolbars set to off do not persist, plus equadistant, space to right and some scroll bars set to off do not persist upon restart.

Also...in the new renamed workspace there was an extra Dom and Basic window
not there in the original, and where there were 10 charts in the original ....there are now 22 charts showing in the NT drop down list !!.... Plus you get the improper compression thing and items not persisting.

I do believe there is something haywire with this rename process in 7B5.

This renamed workspace is the same essential one used all the time in 6.5 and never had a problem with rename there.

          Thanks...

            Alfred,

What are the exact steps you take in renaming and reopening workspaces? Which ones are open and which ones are closed? Thank you.

              Josh...

To rename a workspace I go to Workspace>Save Workspace As...then add a new name.

Usually I have just 1 workspace open.

This morning all charts in all workspaces were hung up on Loading Data.

I removed NT7B5 and am in the process of reinstalling.

              Thanks...

                  Josh...

                  With my new 7B5 install...

When creating a chart (NQ 03-10) can get it to load in a snap if I "use instrument settings"...but if use "Defualt 24/5"....will not load data...

I usually use 24/5...this worked yeserday OK in 7 and it works in NT6.5 today...

                  Any ideas ??

                  Thanks...

                    Alfred,

Please use vanilla charts with no indicators and nothing fancy. What data provider are you using and what time frame are you trying to pull?

                      Josh...

Zen Fire data (Mirus)...simple chart...NQ 03-10, 5 days data....15 second chart ....today always works on Instument Settings but not on 24/5 or 24/7 for any seconds charts.

                      Thanks...

Same problem here, cleared out all references to the old ES contract in the data and cache directories but its still hanging trying to load ES 12-09 data even though nothing is referenced in the new blank chart. It does seem to be somehow tied to the 24/7 instrument setting though.
