Natural Gas futures NG - Symbol map

I am using NT8 with Interactive Brokers. I trade NG futures for many years using NT. However, I receive the following message today when I submit orders as usual: The contract description specified for NG is ambiguous: you must specify the multiplier or trading class. affected Order:... Such a problem didn't appear 5 hours before...

I think we have to update the name in the symbol mapping
Tools --> Instruments --> Search NG --> edit --> Symbol Map --> Interactive Brokers

Should we change NG to something like NG|NYMEX||10000?

I tried but the problem still persist. I checked the contract description for NG in Interactive Brokers, it seems that there are two trading class for NG now: NG and HHW. Both of them are traded in Nymex and the multiplier are both 10000. It is not possible to distinguish these two different contract if we just specify the exchange "NYMEX" and the multiplier "10000" in the symbol mapping name. Where should we specify the trading class (which is the only feature distinguish these two) in the symbol map's name? Thanks

Yes, my setting are correct. I know it usually take times for NT team to resolve problem like this, but since we are active trader of NG futures, I cannot wait to see if anyone having similar problem discover a way to resolve this issue. I tried many time today but still cannot test find out the right symbol mapping for which IB won't reject the order.

The format of the symbol mapping should be something like NG|NYMEX||10000 (actually, I think the exchange and multiplier are not needed as they are not distinguishable item for the two instruments) but need to see how to incorporate the trading class into it to make NG distinguishable from HHW, since IB using the same symbol "NG" for both of them, they share the same symbol, same exchange and same multiplier now.

I also checked for many futures instruments, but it seems that NG is the only futures instrument that IB now using the same symbol to represent two different instruments (NG and HHW). I think unless there is a way to incorporate the trading class symbol mapping, IB will always reject the orders placed from NT because NG and HHW is not distinguishable now and we will always receive message like: "The contract description specified for NG is ambiguous"

Is there any experience user or NT team member can help to resolve this issue? Thanks.

Hi, I encountered the same issue. I am using NT8 with IB. I reported this issue to the NT team yesterday and they said they are investigating this issue.

As a active user of NT and NG futures trader, I have no idea why I cannot place orders to IB (just for this instrument). Everything works as normal 24 hours before, but IB suddenly reject all my orders after yesterday market close. I have some active positions but are forced to square them manually. Now, I cannot do any trade on NG using NT8. The error message is: The contract description specified for NG is ambiguous: you must specify the multiplier or trading class. affected Order: Buy 1 [email protected]

Can anyone help? I want to resume trading on NG asap.

I think your team don't have to look at the log and trace file for this issue at all. You can simply connect NT with a IB paper trading account, create a simple strategy and see if you can submit any order for NG to IB TWS/Gateway. They will reject the submission (same error message as above) because the symbol mapping is not correct now.

Please help us to check what is the correct name of the symbol mapping for NG to interactive brokers.

Thanks for you update. I also tried use to different name in the symbolic mapping these two days but not success. I think it should similar to the case of VIX futures (VX), where there are ore than one trading class, trading in the same exchange and having same multiplier. Anyway, hope to receive a solution from the NT team very soon.

IB already change the definition of NG back to the past. The symbol NG now only refers to NG but not HHW, HHW is now using the symbol HHW but not another trading class within NG, so we can simply use NG as the name of the mapping symbol as before in NT8. Thank you for everyone work on this issue.

Has this been fixed? I remember having this issue and not using Ninja Trader because of it. I went on to work with https://energyinternat.com/, and it was good for me. It's investing in oil and gas wells, and there is an opportunity for a big profit. It's still one of the most profitable industries there is.

I just tested and was able to send an NG order from my NT8 to IB
