    Frequent error during live trading: "Close operation failed. Operation timed out..."

    For some time now, during live trading I will receive an error immediately after an order closes: "Close operation failed. Operation timed out. Manually close your position."

    I have been negligent about reporting it, and I simply close NT and immediately restart it, as it prevents further trading and opens a new order I can't close, but this absurdly shortsighted approach has become extremely disruptive to live trading and tedious (it happens nearly every day), as one might imagine, and it does not solve the problem.

    What steps can I take to remedy the problem?

    Other details:
    • NT version: 8.1.1.7 64-bit (the issue predates this version, however)
    • License type: Lifetime
    • NT is my broker
    • Continuum provides my data

    Hello,

    This is a generic message that indicates the platform was unable to send orders to your broker to close the position on your account. Most often this is caused by a loss of connection to your broker's order routing servers. When this occurs I'd recommend restart NinjaTrader, and then restarting your modem/PC if the issue persists.

      My broker is NinjaTrader. Are you saying their order routing servers are at fault or something on my end (NT installation or connection, for example)?

      Since restarting has been the status quo but no longer an acceptable solution, particularly as a trader who likes to scalp, what are other options going forward? Would you recommend switching brokers?

      I just experienced the issue a moment ago. It happens multiple times a day. I'm running another application continuously that never loses connection, I'll note.

        Hello,

        We have no recent outages of any servers, so this is typically on ither the local machine/network, or possible related to your ISP. If this is recurring, please write into our support team so we can confirm the connection outages as the cause.
