    8.1 auto save password

    Hello,

New version of Ninja requires login. Is there a way to auto save password like use name, so I do not need to reenter it each time.

    Thanks,
    redduke

    Hello RedDuke ,

Thank you for posting on the NinjaTrader forums.

Due to security reasons there is no way to avoid entering the password when launching NinjaTrader.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist with.

Security reasons is a load of bull. Even the founder
said so during his attempt to quell the riots over this
'feature' in the early days of the 8.1.x.x releases.

      Did you know?
There is already an option to enter the password
for a connection every time you connect. So, those
who wanted or needed that option already had it.

      And guess what?
We've had that option since the first day NT8 was
      released!

The new sign-on dialog is not the problem, per se, it is
the new mandatory password entry that is the problem.

NT has refused to add a 'Remember me' checkbox to that
sign-on dialog -- it's clear NT Mgrs have grits for brains.

'Security reasons' is what high level Mgrs say when they
want to shut down a conversation.

That 'security reasons' is crap -- it is simply not believable.

NT Support has been commanded to just say 'security
reasons' because no one higher up has any real reason
or justification for keeping the password entry mandatory.

This edict still chaps my hide.

On the upside, the cute little animated NT logo in 8.1.2 during startup soothes my soul and I almost forget about how it doesn't save the password. Doesn't it for you?

          Never seen it.
I'm staying far away from all the 8.1.x.x releases.

It's that mind boggling mandatory password entry, I'm sure
it will drive me nuts, I will probably hold off upgrading for as
long as possible (or at least until I get an automated work
around working, like, perhaps, this one.)

I'm still not a vendor, so I should be ok for quite awhile.

          I hope.

It's got nothing to do with being a vendor. It's the same for everyone. Or, maybe you mean if you were a vendor you would feel an obligation to make sure your goods work on the latest NT, which you should do in that case.

              The latter ... yep, exactly.

Vendors need to stay up to date.

              Individual users? Not so much.

Personally I like this feature. I use a password manger so it fills in automatically anyway, and because I use a VPS as well the added security is good especially with a fair bit in the account. I also use the password for when I log into my ninjatrader account within NT8.

If you want to secure your broker connection to further safeguard funds, why not check the box to require a password when you connect to the broker? NinjaTrader has supported this since the beginning. Why would it be necessary to password protect just opening the desktop platfform without a broker connection such as one might do when doing development on a weekend or running an optimization where it's more appropriate to be offline? If your answer is to safeguard your source code, that's not a good argument as those are stored in plain text in your Documents folder.

                    I do this as well.

Why would it be necessary to type in your password twice in rapid succession - once to open the platform and once to connect the feed? How would that possibly help?

For me as a trader that wants security, I would like a password to open the Ninja app, then a different password to open the broker account. For you as a developer your requirements are different . The best solution would be for Ninja to have a box in place that you check for remember me for clients that want don`t need to fill in a password all the time, and 2 passwords for the trader that wants security, the broker password remains optional as it is now. At least 2 factor authentication is available which requires 2 new authentications when logging in, even though the password is the same. .

AndyM would you share which password manager you use which works with NT8. Resisting updating from v.1s as yet, but would like to build a repository of tools for when I do as it’s clear NT do not and never have had a coherent argument for this yet persist with it despite continuing pushback from all quarters.
If they were going to do so, I would have thought it would have appeared in the first major Update, which it didn’t (Release Notes Fixes challenged the Encyclopaedia Britannica in length). So, I don’t hold out much hope that attitude will have changed when I can hold off no longer!
                          TIA

RoboForm appears to be an option.

I remember it was first mentioned starting here.

                              Roboform works perfectly for me
