Installation problem - I am new with NinjaTrader

    Hello,
I am very new to NinjaTrader and have no experience.
    Today I installed NT 8.
But when I try to start the app, the following message occurs:
"Unable to load NinjaTrader custom assembly. Please reinstall NinjaTrader: Could not find a part of the path."

After that message, I de-installed NT, cleared everything, started Windows 10 new and installed NT again.
But the same message occurs again.
Can anybody give me a hint for solving this problem?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Manjak

Do you have OneDrive backing up your Documents folder? You want to disable OneDrive most likely. See also: https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/...ustom-assembly

Thank you Bruce. Yes, I use OneDrive. Will test your proposal.

        Hello Manjak,

        Thanks for your post.

You could try disabling Microsoft One Drive as QuantKey_Bruce has mentioned.

If that does not resolve the error message, please write in to support[at]ninjatrader[dot]com with a brief description of the error and include your log and trace files so a Support technician may look into this further.

Follow the steps below to manually attach your log and trace files to your email.
        • Open your NinjaTrader folder under, "Documents" (sometimes called, "My Documents")
        • Right click on the 'log' and 'trace' folders and select Send To> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
        • Send the 2 compressed folders as attachments to this email.
        • Once complete, you can delete these compressed folders.
We look forward to further assisting you.

SOOO frustrating. I am ready to explode.

Why does NT insist on installing in the documents folder, which One Drive messes with during syncing to the cloud? Why can't we install it in a folder that doesn't get messed with by OneDrive?

After a few months of not using OneDrive I thought it was a good idea to sync my files again. I had forgotten that I had switched OneDrive off for the Documents folder because of the issues that NT8 cause with One Drive.

So after unknowingly trying to sync to OneDrive, my NT8 stopped working. Since support didn't get back to me in any reasonable time I went for a re-install. This off course overwrote all my charts, workspaces, indicators etc. So friggin' frustrating. All because NT8 insists on getting installed in the documents folder.

Now I am trying to get the new install going but I can't seem to get my connection feed back up and running. There simply is no option to configure as I did before. No configure, means I cannot add continuum. Now what?!!!

Also, how do I get my charts etc back? Yes, I did backups, but even though I tried to not overwrite my previous install (by naming the new folder for the new NT8 install NinjaTrader8-new) the install still went into and overwrote the regular NT8 folder. Everything seems gone now, and I can't even rebuild because I cannot get my connection going to the service that I am paying for. I have been working under a Simulation account by the way, not a live account.

I still see a copy of my old files (workspaces, charts, indicators, etc) under Windows File History but they are xml files that NT can't read. How do I use these to get my workspaces etc up and running again?

tsliepen go into tools -> options and check the box for multi provider then restart so you can set up continuum again.

              Hello tsliepen,

              Thanks for your note.

We are tracking interest in an existing feature request for the ability to support the ability to set a different directory for the files in Documents\NinjaTrader 7 or 8, rather than just the Documents folder and I have added your vote. This request is being tracked under the number SFT-1740.

As with all feature requests, interest is tracked before implementation is considered, so we cannot offer an ETA or promise of fulfillment. If implemented, it will be noted in the Release Notes page of the Help Guide.

              Release Notes — https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...ease_notes.htm

That said, to configure a connection on NinjaTrader 8 (8.1.1.3), you first need to enable the 'Multi-provider' option in the Tools > Options > General tab as QuantKey_Bruce mentioned. Restart NinjaTrader after enabling the 'Multi-provider' option. Then you could configure your connection in the Connection menu on the Control Center.

If you have a backup file saved on your PC, you could import the backup file into NinjaTrader 8 by going to Tools > Import > Backup file...

See this help guide page for information about Restoring a Backup Archive: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...ive.htm

                Hi Bruce and Brandon,

Thanks for the replies. I would love some straight answers to the following questions:

                - Why does the new desktop version of NT8 require username and password every time you start it up (unlike the old version)?

                - Why can't I find "Continuum" as one of the connection options anymore (like it was in the old version of NT8 desktop)?

                - Can I use .xml files created by Windows File History to restore my charts/templates/indicators/etc? My NT8 backup folder got overwritten during the new install because of the forced reinstall in the location discussed previously. Now I am looking at other ways of restoring all my charts/etc.

                Thank you

                  Hello tsliepen,

                  Thanks for your notes.

                  1. While the login is now required to access the account, the Product Management team has specifically chosen not to save the password for auto-fill for security purposes. The username is now saved and auto-fills. It would be possible to auto-fill the password as well, but this was intentionally not implemented.

We are tracking amount of push back on this, and may re-visit this at a future time. I have added your vote to the feature request we are tracking. This request is being tracked under the number SFT-5780. If implemented, it will be noted in the Release Notes page of the Help Guide.

                  Release Notes — https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...ease_notes.htm

Note: password protecting the platform has been a highly request feature request from our users over the past 10 years, and this had a very high vote count. From my understanding, the majority of the community has voted to implement this.

                  2. You may continue to log in with your existing Continuum/CQG connection. You may create a NinjaTrader connection in place of your existing Continuum/CQG connection. To do so please follow the connection guide linked below.

                  https://support.ninjatrader.com/s/ar...language=en_US

                  3. Custom indicators strategies and other addons could be re-imported onto the platform by going to Tools > Import > NinjaScript Addon and selecting the .zip file of the third-party addon you want to import.

Workspace files are saved as .xml files and are located in the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\workspaces folder. You could copy/paste the workspace .xml files into the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\workspaces folder.

Chart template .xml files could be copy/pasted into the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\templates\Charts folder.

If you have other templates or files that you have questions on, please let me know.

Thank you Brandon. I am trying the steps you mentioned. Something went wrong with the Trading Hours. I now get this error when I start up NT8. How do I solve this?

Can you send me a new Trading Hours folder? I did manage to move it to the right place, after initially misplacing it, but now it is saying that a bunch of trading hours are missing (many many of them) and NT8 won't start up after those messages.

                          Hello tsliepen,

                          Thanks for your notes.

Update your trading hours templates by going to Tools > Database Management > Update trading hours templates. This also has the option to remove user-added trading hours templates if you want to remove those so the trading hours templates only reflect the ones that come default with NinjaTrader.

The last error message you shared indicates that you already have that template loaded in the platform, possibly as a different filename. You could remove that trading hours template mentioned in the error and check the Tools > Trading Hours window to see if you already have that template loaded.

See this help guide page about updating trading hours templates to replace and update all trading hour templates to current server definitions: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...ghourtemplates

I still get tens of those error messages when I try to start NT8 after doing the database/tradinghours update. It didn't seem to make a difference. So I deleted the TradingHours folder in templates, but now NT8 doesn't want to start up, so I can't do the update either.
