Oh, great call. I actually have AT&T Broadband Connect in my new laptop, purchased when I was planning to use it as my "trading server". I was planning to use it as my backup connection to the broker... but I gave up on it when I realized how spotty the connection can be.

But yes, combining it with a hosted server means it would take a truly HUGE disaster (knock on wood) to be out of reach. Bandwidth requirement for managing with remote desktop much, much lower.

Yet another failure on startup this morning. First, macros that I spent so much time working on last night failed... it didn't click on the right options button to set "days back". Good thing baby woke me up right at market open.

Just as a follow-up on going the "hosted" route... I might have to change servers soon.

Everything has been working great to date, great reliability, all sorts of automatic solutions for monitoring, rebooting, backup storage... but my machine is missing a piece of hardware that probably costs $5 OEM: a sound-card.

I want to hear alerts from NinjaTrader, and without a local sound card, the server can't transfer it over my remote desktop connection. So, anyone looking at machines... keep that in mind!

Sorry to hear about the problem, heech.

I wonder if a sound card emulator would actually work? This may not even come close to working on Server 2003, but...

Download The VDMSound Project for free. VDMSound is a modular, extendable soundcard (and other "legacy" hardware) emulator for MS Windows NT/2000 DOS boxes.

        Good luck!

Looks a little scary... I've tried a few different options, all of which were a little scary, and so far haven't worked. Good news though, after threatening to pull my server, SoftLayer compromised and is offering to install any sound-card I send them (for free).

This gives me additional confidence because even 'remotely' I know what it is doing.
ctrlbrk, how do you do this? Is it through your broker or through NT?

            Thanks

Hi you have to program the strategy to send an HTTP request to a provider such as BulkSMS

I've used their service for a few years, they are excellent.

Texts are very cheap, as you can see from their charges.

This is a link to their API details

Many carriers also support email to [email protected], for example... where xxxyyyzzzz is the phone number for your phone. Find out if your carrier supports that, and your life is easy.

Interesting, thanks! I think I prefer to stick with a real hosting company though.

By the way, on the macros side... let me update others looking at this. I've found Macro Express to be the best solution out there, works great, consistent, easy to program.

I'm going to open up an account with IB, and trade the next month with IB/TDA side by side. It'll be a great way to evaluate actual results.

Is the problem that you dont have sound via rdp on the hosted server?
                            If so thats easyily fixed.
                            admin tools, terminal servers config
                            properties of rdp-tcp..client settings
disbale the following. audio mapping must be unticked.
                            its ticked by default

How do you check for broker lost connection?

                              What happens when?
                              1. The power goes out.
-- I run my strategy on a laptop with the top closed. My modem and router are on battery backup. I get about 5 hours of battery life. Before the battery dies (checked via USB) I will execute a flatten all command to close any positions I'm in (just in case). Additionally, and email is sent to my cell phone to let me know.
                              2. You lose your broker connection.
-- If I'm in a trade when this occurs, I will send an email to my phone and handle it myself.
                              3. You lose your internet connection.
-- You're limited in this. I have distinct ISP lines coming into my house, in a redundant router. If one goes down, the other picks up. If both go down I don't have anything setup, but I'm sure you can have an analog phone modem call you on your cell.
