    Using calculated values to Add(SMA(period))

    I usually use the Add(SMA(period)); in the Initialize() method to print the indicators used in a strategy, but what if I calculate the period variable later in the OnBarUpdate() method, can I just change it to:

    OnBarUpdate()
    {
    period = ...;
    Add(SMA(period));
    ...
    }

    I haven't checked yet but it doesn't seem like that would work, I wouldn't want it reAdding at the close of every Bar, at least I don't think so. Any insight?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

    Thanks for the note.

    Unfortunately you cannot change this after the indicators or strategy is added to the chart.

    Remember however, that Add() call for the SMA is only for displaying and adding the indicator on your chart for your reference and is not needed to call the SMA value in the code.

    Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

      K thanks, I suppose it wouldn't be that helpful anway, now thinking about it more, since as the calcualted period changes so will the added sma, there would just be a bunch of different sma graphs outputted, no help there. But thanks for yours!
