    Hello,

Are they named External? Or something else?

I look forward to assisting you further.

There are no positions. Or do you mean External orders? External to NinjaTrader?

If the positions existed, then yes they would be external because they were not created by NinjaTrader but they don't exist. In IB, I flattened my account. There is only a GBP balance in it.

This is why I assumed that NT7 has inferred the positions exist by reading the last trades I did in the account (externally).

I'll try to outline what happened.

      I have GBP-based IB account.

I had a trade on with a position long USD short CAD.

      So I had +100,000 USD and - 102,000CAD and 30,000 GBP (approx)

That was a trade in NT7 with open orders on it. But I cancelled them.

I then closed all open non-base currency positions using the command by that name in IB TWS.

      It executed Buy 63000 GBP/USD and Buy 62000 GBP/CAD

Now NT7 thinks I have long GBP/USD and GBP/CAD positions.

        Hello,

        Does the problem persist today?

Normally when this occurs and in the orders tab there will be a name on the order that is showing the long position and that name will be external if its being downloaded from the broker. In this situation when the broker has an order that is stuck what is required in this case is to wait unti IB resets there server which should have occured last night for the order to drop off. In which case I wouldnt expect it to show up today in this case.

I look forward to assisting you further.

well actually I was referring to the Positions tab, not the positions on the order tab.

I looked into the IB TWS FX Portfolio section and discovered that I can manually set a position to zero to eliminate it, so in fact it is a virtual position only and doesn't reflect what my actual currency balances are.

I have set all my FX Portfolio positions to zero, but I still have balances - now that I tell IB TWS to flatten all my positions, it entered all the appropriate mkt orders and flattened everything, but counter-intuitively it decided to record all the trades as opening positions and it is now tracking these positions in the FX Portfolio. I shall set them all to zero again.

Slightly laborious but I can see now where NT gets the position info from.

            Hello,

Yes as NinjaTrader has no knowledge at that time that its a market order to closed since NinjaTrader did not see the opening position I would expect this. I'm still a little unclear to be honest what your doing in the TWS FX Portfolio and what you mean by setting a position to 0 to eliminate it. Are these simulation trades or fake trades? I would need some clarification on what steps/reasoning your doing in the TWS that is causing this behavior.

I look forward to assisting you further.

              Hi Brett,

check out the FX Portfolio in the Account window when you look in TWS. It lists positions. But since this is forex, they are not set in stone. A position in one pair can be offset by trades in other pairs if you were doing multiple pair trading. It is nothing to do with simulated or real trading - it works the same for both. You can right-click the positions to remove them from the lists by setting the position size to zero.

Essentially this issue is cleared up for me now.

              Thanks

                Hello,

Understood. Glad your up and running. This would be expected based on the further information you provided thanks for that information.
