    How-to with NT7, a couple of things

I am using strategies to trade and to check that everything is going according to plan I check my positions hourly and make sure they are protected by the stop and limit OCO orders.

I can't see an easy way to do this. Neither the orders tab, nor the strategies tab, nor the positions tab gives me the complete overview. I have to switch back and forth between tabs and it takes 10 times longer than it would if it were obvious what orders each position had against it.

OK that's only one thing, but I'll leave it at that for now.

    Hello,

Understood. So as a recommendation your saying that you would like you have your open positions displayed in the orders tab that way you dont have to switch, or are you recommending we need to rework how we show what orders or connected to what strategies and possibly add this to the strategies tab?

As a workaround for now, you could open a Market Analyzer and then add the columns to it to replicate the positions tab. Such as adding the Position Avg Price, Position Size, ProfitLoss, and Realized PnL columns to the Market analyzer.

I look forward to assisting you further.

Showing the orders on the strategies tab would be great. We've already got the positions there.

I don't think the Market Analyzer is going to help there, is it?

        Hello,

It will only prevent you from having to switch to the positions tab and you can just keep the orders tab up and keep the MA open to replicate the positions tab.

As far as your suggestion as the orders each strategy have active to be listed under the strategies in the strategies tab I will get this sent into development right away.

        Thank You.

OK, thanks. I see what you mean as a work-around.

            It's a good idea.

A couple of other things - how about a toggle button somewhere on the strat tab to expand/collapse the list of working orders for all strategies.

And if we're messing with the strat tab, I would love to see last price added. Most position screens I have ever seen (and the strat tab is kind of a position screen) have last price. If the working orders were below it would be even more useful as you'd instantly see how close you are to stop/profit.

              Hello,

Thanks Dave, forwarded this to development as well.

I totally agree with that, Dave.

I've got a second related issue as well.

In my strategy's Initialize() event, I add the indicators used by the strategy to the plots, to visualize the strategy when I'm in backtesting, using the performance windows. But when my strategy is live, the performance window doesn't show the indicators so I can't see what's going on. The chart windows are great because the chart trader allows me to choose the account and that shows the orders visually that my strategy's placed. I can choose the instrument one by one to get a good chart overview of the whole trading situation. But still if I put the indicators in there on the chart, I would have to open the indicator settings for each instrument when I change to a new one in order to set the indicator parameter.

So what I envisage is an option on the strategy tab to open a chart, showing the instrument with the correct timeframe, the indicators being used with the correct parameter values, and the orders in the same way as the chart trader. If you want go the whole way, you could include the past trades in the same way as the performance charts.

I guess this isn't possible with things as they are, right?

                  Hello,

This is possible if you start the strategy on the chart instead of starting it in the strategies tab.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

The problem with that is that I would then have 30 chart windows open each running a strategy, and in the near future that could rise to 100. I think my OS and hardware would be hard pressed to keep up, plus it would be quite difficult to find any particular strategy amongst all the chart windows (unless the windows are named by strategy and currency).

                        Actually Brett,

running a strategy in a chart doesn't show the orders or the fill position in the way that ChartTrader does. This is a key part of the strategy visualization that would allow the quickest and clearest overview and management.

                        Thanks

That message was intended as either a question, and if the answer is "that's right", then as a suggestion that charts running strategies do actually show entry price and orders in the same way as the Chart Trader.

                            Hello,

I considered this an addendum to your previous suggestion.

                            Thanks you.

                              Something more: IB positions

I just closed all my positions in IB TWS.

I then opened NT7 b22, and did a "Reset DB".

However on connecting to IB, a number of positions appear that represent nothing to me, as if they are positions inferred from the trades used by IB TWS to flatten my account - i.e. trades against my account's base currency GBP.

e.g. GBPCAD - although I never trade that, on flattening my account, IB traded the CAD out against GBP.

How can I get rid of these ghost positions?

                              Thanks
