Can I get a link to install Beta 15?
I tried installing Beta 16 and there are all kinds of problems with loading historical data, and so on. I just want to go back quickly to Beta 15, but the .exe that I had saved to install it now seems to install Beta 16. Can I get a link to install Beta 15 again?
Thanks!Tags: None

This is actually pretty serious now, in that I can't even get the program to load using my workspace from beta version 15... it just throws an exception on startup.
In general, you guys should always have a link on your download page for the previous beta version, just like you do for the previous production version. When someone installs a new beta and it doesn't work like this, we should always have the option to go back without having to ask you explicity.
Please consider adding a link to the previous beta version to your download page, to avoid problems like this in the future.
Thanks!

I agree, a link to the previous version would be very useful. I have been saving all the "setup" executables because I was under the impression that they would link to all the different beta versions, but I guess not. On a different note though, I'm using beta 16 now, and to me, it's the best yet. I'm pretty happy with it.
I've also messed around with the free (EOD) version of Kinetick a bit...pretty cool so far.Last edited by Radical; 05-20-2010, 07:44 PM.

JS999, we've discussed your request and similiar ones and would rather go through all steps needed to understand what exactly happend and why, as to just provide a B15 download link. Reason being simply, that the issues you've experienced would be important for to understand and look into and with staying on B15 you just postpone them.
Unfortunately the steps we've advised taking are more involved than with other beta updates, but given feedback and experiences so far we're confident if you follow along exactly as outlined it should be working out.
So please reinstall following those steps mentioned again below and if you'd still experience an issue, please contact us via Help > Mail to Support and be sure to include trace / logs for our review - thanks very much.
Please execute the following steps BEFORE upgrading to this new beta version:
1. Start your current NinjaTrader 7 version
2. Within the Control Center window select File > Utilities > Remove NinjaScript Assemblies and remove every single assembly listed
3. Uninstall NinjaTrader 7 via Windows Control Panel
4. Delete the files of the folder /Documents/ NinjaTrader 7/bin/Custom (DO NOT delete the sub folders)
5. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\NinjaTrader %> 7 if you have a 32-bit machine OR
Delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\ NinjaTrader 7 if you have a 64-bit machine
Please note that any previously installed 3rd party components will NO LONGER be installed.

I understand that you want people to stay on B16 to solve your problems for you. However, you need to understand that some of us have our own issues to deal with. There are some people who are actually using this program to trade with live money, and you should provide a way for them to go back to the previous version whenever they need to.Originally posted by NinjaTrader_Bertrand View PostJS999, we've discussed your request and similiar ones and would rather go through all steps needed to understand what exactly happend and why, as to just provide a B15 download link. If you release a version that contains a critical bug, you can't handcuff absolutely everybody into using it just because you'd like your bugs fixed ASAP, especially if it is going to cost them real money to do so. You don't have the right to release a new version with critical bugs in it, ask people to upgrade to it, and then prevent them from downgrading back to a version that works in the short-term if they need to.
I am sure that plenty of people will choose to stay on Beta 16 and work out the bugs whether you provide a download link to 15 or not. If you think about it, anyone reading your response is going to actually DELAY switching to a new version from now on, if this is your attitude. After all, who in their right mind is going to risk changing to a new Beta version if they aren't confident that they can go back if it doesn't work? I never would have switched last night if I knew that was the case, and the same can be said for a lot of other people.
Your policy is very short-sighted, and in fact is going to have the opposite effect of what you intend. You need to provide a download link so people feel confident in upgrading to the latest beta version, not give them reasons to delay the switch. Think about it. (I can ASSURE YOU that if you don't provide a link to 15 for me ASAP, that the for the next Beta version, I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT switch to it and begin testing it for you until many, many others have reported that it works. This is NOT the effect that you want, as it is going to do nothing but slow down your entire beta testing process.)Last edited by JS999; 05-21-2010, 06:36 AM.

Please remember NT recommends you not live trade with Beta versions.Originally posted by JS999 View PostThere are some people who are actually using this program to trade with live money, and you should provide a way for them to go back to the previous version whenever they need to.

I've given up on it. I trade real money and I send signals to C2 and today I have missed the entire days trading here in Australia while waiting for a fix from support and at this point it looks like I will miss tonights US open.
I've lost all of my tick data history, which I need for my calculation for tonights levels, so tonight is another no go.
I guess we made the jump to NT7 too soon, unfortunately NT 6.5 is also buggy. I am now fighting some random Assertion Error in NT 6.5.
I'm just about ready to jump ship.
I also see that 16 is still available on the downloads page even though it is breaking everyones install.

Please remember that we are your customers, and that what we want matters.Originally posted by eDanny View PostPlease remember NT recommends you not live trade with Beta versions.
The only reason some people are using NT 7 to trade with live is because NT 6.5 sucks so incredibly badly that even this incomplete beta version is better than your previous production version. In high market volume, NT7 works better than NT 6.5, which is why I switched from it months ago.
Aside from that, you don't have the right to insist that people go about re-creating their workspaces and charts on YOUR convenience. For example, today I would like to trade, but the problems with B16 are causing me to have to recreate my entire workspace to get them fixed. Tomorrow and Sunday I would be happy to work with B16 to get it going, but today is a trading day and I need something that works now.
You guys are really messing this up incredibly badly. Does anybody at your company actually have a brain, or what? You think that you have the right to release a version that breaks things and then prevent people from going back to a previous version right before the market open? Your arrogance is astounding.
As I said, if I don't get a link to 15 very soon, the next beta version will not get installed by me (and many others who read this message) until a lot of time has passed. That is not what you want.

As is stands we are not aware of any bug. This is not to say that there could be a bug.Originally posted by JS999 View Post...
If you release a version that contains a critical bug
...
However, we are aware that following the instructions we provided down to the last details is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY and issues which got reported including the details we needed to analyze, fell into that category.
If you provided details on the issues you're experiencing we would be able to
a) assist you to get going (based on instructions we provided), this is the most likely case
b) see if there an issue which would force us to revisit the current NT7B16
Note: please be aware that you needed to go through the detailed steps we provided on next update even if you now went back to NT7B15. Unfortunately there is no way around.
Also: I just deleted your most recent post since it's insulting and violating the board rules.

What is insulting is your attitude, and the attitude of everyone at NT. Whether your latest version contains a critical bug or not is irrelevant. It is your policy that is in dispute. Any new version could contain a critical bug, and your policy does not account for that possibility or deal with the needs of your customers.Originally posted by NinjaTrader_Dierk View PostAs is stands we are not aware of any bug. I have to hand it to you guys, you really have a talent for angering your customers and making yourselves look bad. Your policy is very short-sighted and will have the exact opposite effect of what you intend, in that it will cause people to not want to install the new beta version whenever it comes out. That will actually increase the time that it takes to find and squash new bugs. The arrogance and blindness that exists at your company never ceases to amaze me.

I did follow the instructions and was prepared to loose all my third party stuff, but I still get the same crash trying to start 16.
btw I did provide the details to support, as I always do, including the trace files. I have reported many NT7 bugs all with as much information as I can, including screenshots, logs and descriptions.
Anyway, I'm going to go back to 6.5, I feel that I have provided enough feedback and error reporting on NT7 for now.Last edited by webart; 05-21-2010, 07:16 AM.

Could you please be explicit on the issue you experience? Error message? Screen shot? Anything which helps us to understand what trouble you experience.Originally posted by webart View PostI did follow the instructions and was prepared to loose all my third party stuff, but I still get the same crash trying to start 16.
