    NinjaTurtle,

Please clarify as to where and how these orders were placed. Dotted lines would only show up for NinjaScript strategy trades. Manual trades or trades seen on a chart without a NinjaScript strategy will not have these lines. This would be expected behavior.

      Hi Josh,

the trades I mentioned are all ATM Strategy trades. If I close them manually, I close them by clicking the mouse wheel, so they will be recognized as ATM trades.

It all worked fine in 6.5 but now the behavior is as described before. No trades at all on a chart opened via the Trades-Tab, grayed out settings and no lines. Trades appear on a new chart with default settings but without lines.

So no, I guess this is not expected behavior.

And just because you mentioned it: I'd find it very helpful to have those lines for all trades (or at least be able to choose). The visualization is much more pleasant. You get to see all trades much easier and faster when you don't have to search for small different colored triangles first.

        NinjaTurtle,

ATM strategy trades never showed connecting trade lines in 6.5 or 7 on charts they were traded from or opening a new one from File>New>Charts. This is expected behavior.

Please find the 3 attached screenshots.
1.png = ATM strategy trade placed on Chart Trader
2.png = Account Performance shows the trade I just made
3.png = Right click on the trade > Send to Chart; trade shows up

Reason we cannot have those lines for discretionary trades is because there is no way we can pair them together in all scenarios. You can discretionarily make trades which would not necessarily follow any pairing rule and NT would not be able to make that assessment.

What I suspect is that you have on your default chart template Plot Executions set to false. I suggest you open your current default chart template, check Plot Executions in the Data Series window and ensure it is set to TextAndMarkers or MarkersOnly. Then save that as the new default chart template and then try "Send to Chart" again.

          Josh,

maybe we have a misunderstanding here. I never said I had or would like to have those lines on charts they were traded from or on new charts opened with File>New>Charts.

I just said that I get no trades at all on charts opened via Account Performance, grayed out settings and no lines.

But I had a lot of trouble with Beta 18 today (wild memory usage, crashes etc.) and I just made a brand new installation and restored a backup. The bottom line is that now the trades appear again with lines in some cases. In other cases there are still no lines or trades are not displayed at all. I have absolutely no idea what the difference might be between those trades (they're all ATM Trades). The settings are still grayed out, so I guess this is expected.

Well, I guess that's why you call it beta

            NinjaTurtle,

Can you please take a screenshot of what exactly you are referring to? It is not clear to me where you are attempting things and what you are seeing.

              Josh,

I'm doing exactly what you did in post #18. The difference is, that in contrast to you first I just got "empty" charts (candles only, no trades). See picture 1.

              Then I reinstalled NT 7.18.

And now I realized something "funny". When I select all trades for 2010 and choose a trade, I sometimes get to see the trade in the chart and sometimes not. The difference is, whether I select my trading account and the SIM account or just the SIM account in the advanced settings?!

When I select the SIM account only, I get to see the plots. Pictures 2 and 3.

As soon as I add the trading account to the selection, the plots are gone. Nothing else was changed. Pictures 4 and 5.
I can reproduce this with many trades, while others seem to work fine.

I have to continue in the next post, since I reached the limit of 5 files.

And now even weirder, as soon as I narrow down the date to the specific day of that trade, it makes no difference anymore, whether I select the SIM account only or together with the trading account. The plots are there in both cases. See pictures 6-9.

No wonder one gets confused. And just in order to not have to discuss this point too, my default setting includes to plot executions. Otherwise it wouldn't show anything at all. Picture 10.

It took me a while to research and document all this, so I really hope, that I was able to make myself clear.

                    Hi Josh,

first I have to apologize for not responding for so long. I wasn't in the office for a couple of days and than afterwards I was preoccupied and simply forgot. Now that I updated to NT 7.19, I tried again and I guess I found a solution.

I first realized, that in the new version I got to see the text, the markers and the lines in a chart that I opened via the "Trades"-tab in Account performance. But that only lasted for a second or two and then the chart switched automatically to a new layout and everything was gone, leaving me with an empty chart (candles only).

I then realized, that it obviously had to do something with the session templates. Since I couldn't change that setting in the specific chart, I tried different settings in another chart and saved them as default. Eventually I set it to "Use instrument settings" and since then I get to see everything as expected. This of course means, that I can't use any other session template as default, but at least I can live with that.
