Pivots not working

Hi Josh

How long should this backup take? I'm getting '(Not Responding)' in the title bar of Backup NinjaTrader window with time remaining stuck at 00:01:45. I gave it 6 minutes and then had to use task manager to shutdown NT.

I've had 4 attempts so far!

That depends on how much information you actually have like historical data, replay files, etc. I suggest you uncheck everything except for Database for now.

Have done a complete 100% clean install. No restoring of backups. I just ran NT 7.0.0.9 for the 1st time and opened a new YM chart with no other indicators or formatting.

Now, on pressing F5, the values do not change. Instead the pivot levels disappear completely from the chart!
To get the pivot levels back I have to click on the chart.

This is only happening if I am connected to Zen-fire or IQFeed. With no connection the pivots work fine even when pressing F5.

I'm seeing some of that also. However, if you wait it out the pivots seem to reappear if you're connected and within a session time (at least they eventually have for me). On a 24 hour chart, after normal market hours with slow movement on NQ, I have observed anywhere from 1 second to 2 minutes for the pivots to reappear after pressing F5. It's almost like its waiting for some event to occur. They do appear very quickly again if I just ckick on the chart as you observed. If I use a time frame where I'm outside the session then I don't know if the pivots ever will reappear without me clicking on the chart. I've been waiting 5 minutes now. I finally clicked on the chart and they appeared. Even when I'm within a seesion time and I press F5 and the pivots reappear on the chart, the pivot values do not appear in the data box until I move the cursor. It sounds like we are seeing similar things. This phenomena may be more obvious with slow after hours data - I don't know.

I'm kind of glad I'm no longer alone!

I think the event that causes the pivots to reappear is when a change of last price comes in. So in a slow moving market it will take longer for the pivots to appear. Which would mean in a fast moving market we may not even notice that the levels have disappeared because the last price may change immediately.

I also have been unable to reproduce the different values with repeated F5's in Beta 9.

Just to be clear, I no longer get different values on hitting F5. The clean install of 7.0.0.9 seems to have cured that.

Have also had two strange experiences with the new pivots

(a) Pivots not showing up at all, only came after refreshing via F5

(b) Pivots displaying the same value all over the length of the chart in dailybars mode, indicating that always the same daily bar had been loaded.

I try to further explore this and check, whether there is reproducible scenario. This was independent from the fact that the pivots were false in an number of cases.

Reproducible Scenario

This is what I found with Interactive Brokers:

(a) Not connected. Apply pivot indicator in DailyBars mode -> works.
(b) Connected. During active market hours. Apply pivot indicator in DailyBars mode -> works.
(c) Connected. During afterhours (historical backfill available, no real-time data) -> no pivots, pivots appear when clicking inside the chart panel, clicking the frame will not help.

This is reproducible.

SessionPivots for NT 7

The SessionPivots version for NT 7 can be found here:

The SessionManager has made the work easy compared to NT 6.5. May I ask again to add a holiday calendar and session breaks to the session manager (agree: not first priority right now). This would have been a great feature to eliminate yesterday's holiday session automatically, to allow to calculate pivots from Friday's session. The Indicator allows to enter holidays manually. Entering Feb 15, 2010 as a holiday should get you the right pivots for Feb 16.

This is the first version, so do expect some bugs. Any feedback welcome.

There definitely will not be a calendar with NT7. Thanks for your suggestion though.

There is actually another problem with NT7 (version 7.0.0.9). This morning I had yesterday's pivots on my chart, when connected. Here is the reason:

If I connect to Interactive Brokers, and then open a chart with a pivots indicator on it, the chart will access daily data but will not load (update) daily data from Interactive Brokers at all. This is a different behaviour from NT 6.5. So to get correct pivots I need to proceed as follows

NT 7: 1st step -> Open daily chart to load daily data. 2nd step -> Open intraday charts with pivots in DailyBars mode.

NT 6.5: One step -> when intraday chart opened, daily data is called from Interactive Brokers and updated.
