    Major Stability Issues

    Hello

I've been testing NT 7 extensively over the last two weeks and was initially happy with the performance improvements in terms of speed and memory usage, but I've repeatedly run into major stability issues.

    My setup:
    -50 & 300 contract Volume charts
-Markets: DAX, Euro FX (6E), GC (Gold), CL (Crude Light)
-Days back: 3 for the 50 Volume chart, 12 for the 300 volume chart
-Data Feed: Zen Fire with Mirus

The CL market doesn't work in NT7 (I have mentioned this in another thread already and this issue was acknowledged by Ninja).

Basically, when I open my workspace one of the above-mentioned markets (usually the 50 Volume GC chart) doesn't load correctly and then there's a big red X on the screen and an error message telling me that Ninja has to shut down. When I exit and restart, the same thing happens again. I tried to remove the GC and the result is somewhat better, but sometimes the big red cross also appears on another chart and I have to shut down.

The worst part is that right after placing an order in the DOM (and getting filled), the whole system freezes and I have to restart the computer entirely. After the restart, I tried to exit my position by clicking on "close" but nothing happened. I then clicked on "Flatten everything" but this didn't work either. I had to place a buy order to offset my short position and then finally the DOM indicated that I was flat. Quite a scary experience!

Maybe the whole thing has to do with the GC contract because when I close it everything works better (but still far from perfect).

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ninja but these last few days have been very frustrating using NT7.

    Thanks

As you know NT7 is in beta stage (not even public beta). Please let us know if your frustration would be overwhelming. We then would remove you from our beta list and you then might retry NT7 as it's out of beta.

In case you wanted to continue working with the beta it would be great if you could provide feedback on these issues.
    a) the CL issue could be worked around by Tools->Options->Data->Merge options: set to DontMerge. Note, you then would loose the AutoMerging but it might help in your setup
    b) the red X on charting might be an issue which we're chasing for a while but have been unable to resolve. It would be great if you had a reproducible scenario (step but step guidance would be great)
    c) as NT would freeze you could kill it by the task manager. In case your computer freezes (meaning you had to restart it since other applications would not operable) this unlikely is an issue related to NT but rather to your computer

      Dierk,

Im happy to be a beta-tester (and want to continue being one), it's just that those big red X's are very annoying because they appear under very different circumstances (that's why I don't yet have a reproducible scenario I can send you). I'll look into your tip for the CL contract, thanks for that. I always kill NT with the Task Manager when I have to, I just found that everything runs better when I restart the whole system.

I'd be interested in hearing from others trading the GC contract because I just finished completely reinstalling NT 7 with just the 6E and the DAX (no CL, no GC) and everything is running fine.

      Thanks

        >> because they appear under very different circumstances
        a) Please send me your traces and logs e.g. my Help->Mail to support, Attn "Dierk"
        b) any indication what "might" cause these issues would be great as well

          a) "Please send me your traces and logs": I'll do that as soon as the issue happens again (for now it is running fine but as I said I only have the DAX & 6E on the screen. (I'm hesitant to put the CL/GC charts back on to be honest).

          b) "any indication what "might" cause these issues would be great as well": it could be related to the Nymex data feed, because the problem first appeared when I loaded the CL chart and when I removed it because one of your colleagues confirmed that it wasn't working, I replaced it with the GC which also trades on the Nymex and the problem reappeared after a while. Now that I only use the Eurex and CME feeds, everything seems to be running fine. Just a thought.

On (a): you traces and logs would hold info on past issues. They would be of value even as you had no current issue.

I'd be happy to send them to you but I totally removed NT7 and reinstalled it from scratch. Aren't the logs erased in this process?

If I'm right about my guess regarding the Nymex, you may be able to reproduce the issue with the CL or the GC contract on your end.

If you hadn't removed manually any folder in <my documents>/NinjaTrader7, then trace and logs still would be there.

Unfortunately I removed everything but I'll make sure to send you all my logs as soon as it happens again. (Am loading a GC chart right now to see how it goes).

I reviewed the traces you just sent end. They would not hold any indication of a "red X" on chart but rather are related to persisting a strategy as you close your workspace.

Would you have a reproducible scenario? Thanks

                        Hi Dierk

I just tried to load a chart of Corn futures (ZC), and a big red X with the usual "need to shut down" message appeared. I sent you a mail with the log.

                        Thanks

                            Hi laocoon !

We recently resolved an issue which is most likely the problem what you occurred. Problem is caused by the line on close chart style, under specific conditions.

The issue is fixed and the solution will be available on the next update of NinjaTrader.

                            Thanks for reporting !

                            Kind regards,
                            Christian
