Some comment to stability
As per now and for what I am doing (so quite a limited view) I am quite happy to find out that the stability of NT 7 is already superior to NT 6.5.
NT 6.5:
Connecting three or more charts with different instruments and/or lookback periods -> at least one chart not loading -> no more charts can be loaded at all. Shut down necessary. Disconnecting and reconnecting -> as above, makes awful noises when shutting down (number of noises = number of corrupted charts). Connected charts -> not working properly. -> Corrupted charts, needs to shut down.
NT 7:
None of these. Initial stability issues (red crosses, data not loading from IB, hangs on data loading, freezes) have been solved. So I am quite confident that the product will be successful.

@Harry,
concerning stability in my vie NT7 is far superior to NT6.5 I use it for real trading since beta 3 (nov 2009) not because I need adventure, on the contrary because I feel that the underlying stability is much higher.
I also find that it is very important to code proprietary indicators properly.
I happen to modify tiny details here and there on indicators/strats I considered stable already 6 month ago. This is very important!
Maybe on thing: I prefer not to compile code on the NinjaTrader I use for real trading.
Backtesting, strategy dev etc. is all done on a secondary installation.
But this I would consider common sense.
regards
Andreas

I just joined the beta program. I got B10, and I've just played with it a bit, so, I don't yet have much comments on whether good/bad. But, from a lot of the posts here, I was getting the impression that V7 is having a difficult time at getting stable. But, the last couple of posts in this thread are more hopeful.

Hi Speedie6,
NT7 is a quite a complex product, so there is a whole bunch of minor bugs that spread out everywhere, but this is not unusual. The major point is that database and architecture of NT7 are by far superior to NT 6.5., which already translates into stability and comfort. I have had at least 3 crashes per day (loading of historical data, not trading) with NT 6.5. -> if I compare NT7 to NT 6.5. it is already rock solid.
Of course, we are hunting bugs and finding them, that's what a Beta is for. Don't be afraid to change your name to Speedie7.

Yes, I have seen the features list and the video, so, I'm aware that version 7 is indeed a MASSIVE revision over 6.x. And, for that reason, I do of course know that it takes time to work the bugs out. Even so, it has seemed to be progressing slower than hoped, at least based on some of the posts I'd seen.Originally posted by Harry View PostNT7 is a quite a complex product, so there is a whole bunch of minor bugs that spread out everywhere, but this is not unusual.
That's just a handle I've used on some car forums, in regards to the fact that I drive a Mazdaspeed 6. I maybe shoulda come up with a different handle for here, but, I didn't.Originally posted by Harry View PostOf course, we are hunting bugs and finding them, that's what a Beta is for. NT7 does not like IB pacing rules
Had a small problem today, see screenshot. Problem was created by violation of IB pacing rules. Now this is COIL and we know that daily data is not correctly translated by NT, so this also might have caused the exception.
The good news:
When this happened with NT 6.5. -> Entire workspace corrupted, no new charts could be opened, immediate shutdown of NT necessary.
If this happens with NT 7 -> Close the chart and open a new one via chart template.
Quite a difference.

My mistake. I switched to Windows Live some time ago, and this is not really stable. Sometimes it eats the mails when I send them and does not even save a copy in the outbox.
I will dig in the trace files and send it again, if need. This happened: Data throttling by IB -> chart remained blank -> plotting error on custom indicator -> about 2 minutes later index exception which created the red cross -> will send you the log and trace file again........

Ticket number is 286588. Problem is likely caused by use of ChartControl, as this has changed with NT 7. I now replaced base.ChartConrol.LastBarPainted and base.ChartConrtrol.BarsPainted as suggested by the document on code breaking changes. I would also greatly appreciate, if a limited documentation of ChartControl methods and properties would be made available to the interested user of NinjaTrader.

Have to rectify this post: problem also occurs without indicators, when IB throttles data or when I try to download historical data during maintenance (around 5:45 PM EST). ChartControl issue was another error independant from the one that caused the red cross.
I understand that a fix will be provided with the next release. Thanks again for information provided so far.
