Feedback for NT 7: Big mistake not maintaining old behaviors

I already gave feedback on how "Enabling" strategies is a mistake and needs to be corrected.

Another huge mistake is the notion of defaulting to an instrument specific session template and changing default behavior from the expected 24-7.

PLEASE INTRODUCE A GLOBAL OPTION THAT WILL SET ALL THE SESSION TEMPLATES BACK TO 24-7!!!!!

Case in point, the HKFE. It's hours have changed this week. Did anyone on your team realize this? Your session templates still have it starting at 9:45am when in fact it now opens 30 mins sooner. I missed several days of trades because of this session template, and I didn't know why I missed the trades until I figured it out just now. At first I thought maybe it didn't recover from a dropped connection through IB, but it turns out it's because I wasn't getting any data.

You should have defaulted to the previous 24/7 behavior, and then allowed customers to switch over to the new session templates either on a global basis with an option, or on a one-off basis.

Based on how much money I've lost, I deeply regret the decision to migrate to NT 7, and frankly I've lost confidence in the quality of the software, because now I have no idea what other "surprises" to expect.

I personally find session templates a complete DETRIMENT because pre- and after-market price action is important to me, so this requires me to go in and manually change every single stupid instrument that I want to use. I can't change it on a global level. My big fear is that at some point, I will need to "Reset Instruments" for one reason or another (NT 6.5 required this a couple of versions ago, so it's not that rare), and I will need to go back and change every single instrument's session template back to 24-7. If I forget, it will again affect all my trades and I have to go through this AGAIN.

As software developers, you have to realize that you need to maintain old behavior to ensure compatibility, otherwise people migrating over to your new version will encounter a lot of problems. I've now missed several profitable trades because of your changes, and like I said, I deeply regret migrating and have lost confidence in NT 7 as a platform, because I frankly do not know what other things will cause problems for my trading.

If you were active traders, you would realize that every "feature" that introduces more clicks and more things to remember makes using your platform HARDER TO USE and fraught with risk. Instead of facilitating my trading, you have added significant hurdles that I need to remember to set, such as setting my strategy to Enabled or setting session templates, without the use of a global option. If you had a global option to set this, I would have no complaints. but without this global option, it introduces more clicks and more risk for me to forget and have it affect my trading. This is something that needs to be vastly improved on your end, because adding hurdles and potential roadblocks to trading is completely counter to your goals.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS FOR ANY NEW FEATURES THAT YOU ARE THINKING OF IMPLEMENTING.

    stevent,
You've hit the nail on the head. The programmers for NT cannot be active traders or they would not make the mistakes that they do...repeatedly. Not that its much consolation, but the same problem exists at Tradestation, and probably most other charting companies. Some one of these days, one of these companies is going to get wise and hire a bunch of part time software developers who are also part time traders (part time but active, not investors), and that company will improve so significantly that it will blow away the competition, gaining significant market share. Heads up, Ninjatrader, I speak the truth.

Hasten slowly in judgement. Ray (the CEO) does trade, or at least he used to, as this setup that he posted many years ago will attest. http://www.trading-naked.com/ninja_setup.htm. Acutally, that post was how I first heard of NinjaTrader, surprising as it may seem. I guess that is why I still remember it after all these years. LOL
