    Installing new version breaks shortcut

I experience the following every time I install a new version of NinjaTrader (like when I installed 7.0.1000.3):

I run Windows XP and start NinjaTrader from a shortcut in the Quick Launch menu. Installing a new version of NinjaTrader always breaks that shortcut, so I have to recreate it. It's a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. If there's something I should change on my system to prevent this, please tell me what it is. But if this is a NinjaTrader issue, I think you should consider fixing it.

The two screen shots below show the properties of the NinjaTrader desktop shortcut created when I installed 7.0.1000.3 and the properties of the pre-existing Quick Launch shortcut after that same installation.

    Hello MikeInMA,

Unfortunately I am not sure what is causing the issue on your end. The shortcut on my end works fine after new installations. I have not seen similar reports either.

As per your last sentence, are you saying you have two shortcuts after you installed version 7.0.1000.3?

What steps do you take when installing new versions?

When you say the shortcut breaks, what exactly happens when you click it - do you receive an error message?

I maintain a single shortcut that's on the XP Quick Launch menu. After an upgrade NinjaTrader will place a new shortcut on the desktop, at which point I will have two: A desktop shortcut that works fine and a Quick Launch shortcut that no longer works. (Note in my screen shots that my Quick Launch shortcut doesn't have a target.) I then have to delete the Quick Launch shortcut and move the newly-created desktop shortcut to the Quick Launch menu. (Did you test with a Quick Launch shortcut or just with a desktop shortcut?)

The steps I take to install are, I save the setup file to my system, then I execute it.

I believe the error message is something like "A parameter is missing."

        Hi MikeInMA,

Would creating a shortcut to the C:\Program Files\NinjaTrader 7\bin\NinjaTrader.exe file be an option for your quick launch bar?

The path of this file should not change in any way during upgrades, so it should remain in working order.
