    Problem with daily Forex data from Interactive brokers

    I'm trying to trade Forex using NT7 with connection to Interactive Brokers. The daily forex candles are not shown correctly. Every time I reload my chart a new daily candle starts which is a complete nonsense. I read on the forum that this is a well known problem. When do you expect to fix it? Is there any workaround?
    I've bought an expensive forex trading software from one of NT partners and now I cannot trade it because their decision about the trend direction is based on the daily data.

    What version of Interactive Brokers’ TWS software do you have installed?

    Are you connecting NinjaTrader to a Live Interactive Brokers account?

      Hi,

      I'm using TWS version 911.3 and simulation accout. I always test new systems on my demo account so I would expect that data there will be correct too.

        Can you provide an image of a chart showing this issue to illustrate your point?

        To send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CRTL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and attach the file to your next reply to this forum thread.

            Hello kassandra,

            Interactive Brokers supports historical Daily data for Live account users. Please clarify if you experience this same Daily candle issue when connected to a Live Interactive Brokers account via NinjaTrader.

              hi,
              i have the same problem with kassandra...wrong date on last daily candle...always one day forth ...has nothing to do with the feed..tested with IB , zen fire and MBtrading.....i suspect it has to do with my timezone maybe....i am on GMT +2 ...noticed that problem on all latest 7 builds...i suspect kassandra is also located in europe... see attached chart dates please ...here is still 11/1/2011

                Thank you for your post.

                What you describe is as expected. Keep in mind that NinjaTrader lists the close date/time of the bar, not it's open.

                  Hi Kyle,

                  since NinzaTrader lists the close date/time of a bar ...and FDAX future closes exactly at 23:00 local time each day this daily chart should be stamped with todays date (11-1) ...right ? same for the ES mini future which closes at 23:15 every trading day... am i right ? please see attached charts...

                    What is listed in the title bar of the chart is dictated by the settings you have in place in the Data Series menu. Please check the 'Last Date' setting in that menu.

                      Hi Chip,

                      Yes, I experience the same Daily candle issue when connected to a Live Interactive Brokers account via NinjaTrader (release R1). I live in Toronto, Canada. It's EST time, the same as in New York. I observe the issue when trading the Asian session. I'm using the Forex session template on my charts (session starts at 17:00). I compiled another picture (three screenshots together) that hopefully explains clear enough what happens.
                      I would say that the new daily candle has to start at 17:00 EST and definitely not every time I open my workspace .

                        Hello kassandra,

                        Please note that NinjaTrader time stamps price bars at the closing price. The behavior you describe is as expected.

                        So at 6:54 PM 11/01/2011, your chart will display a price bar time stamped as 12/01/2011. The 11/01/2011 daily candle is completed at 5:00 PM, so after 5:00 PM a new daily candle is created.

                          There is nothing is "as expected" here. Did you even look at the picture that I attached? Do you understand it?
                          You are absolutely correct that the new daily candle supposes to start at 5:00 PM. But it didn't! This is exactly what I'm complaining about. Instead, this new daily candle starts AT THE MOMENT I OPEN MY WORKSPACE!!! At 6:54 PM this candle must reflect the price changes between 5:00 and 6:54. It shouldn't START at this time.
                          As you can see on the screenshot in the middle of my picture, if I leave the workspace open and connected to the datafeed, two hours later (at 8:44 PM) the candle already reflects the price changes (it has a body). Now if I close the workspace and open it again (at 8:45 PM) I must see the same daily candle on the right. But it's not there! It STARTS at this moment (at 8:45 PM) AGAIN!!! As you can see on the screenshot on the right side of my picture the candle doesn't have a body again!

                            Hello kassandra,

                            I see, unfortunately this is a limitation with IB and using daily forex data. Our development team has a pending case with IB, however there is no fix or resolution from IB so far.

                              Well, it's been about a year and a half....how's this pending case going? I've been working around this daily candle issue awhile now...and it's wearing me out. Not having a daily candle through the asian session is tough. I'm sure i'm not the only one constantly typing 240m on charts cuz there isn't a four hour listed in the drop down menu. All i need is a daily candle that works at 5:00 til 5 the next day....what's the fix here? Thank you...40MM
