Autoroll Contracts setting does not update contracts after logout/login

I enabled the "Autoroll Contracts" setting in NinjaTrader Web. It says "All contracts will autoroll. To roll forward all contracts in your current active workspace you need to enable this settings and log out and back in."

After trying toggling this off/on, then logout/login several times -- none of the instruments in my workspace are rolled. I have no open positions, I am just expecting each instrument to roll to the front active month contract. Is it broken?

    Hello johnathanhebert,

    Thank you for the message.

If they aren't rolling over, this could mean it isn't yet time or ready to roll over.

If the instrument hasn't officially expired yet and you are ready to roll over to the next contract, click the little gear icon in the top-right corner of that web module > Click to Roll Forward

If you think it should be rolling the instruments over, what instruments and contracts are you currently looking at and expecting to be rolled over?

For example, I created a test workspace with only 1 chart module. I intentionally set the contract to "ES 12-23" because it is already expired. Autoroll is enabled. I logged out and logged back in. Should this contract be automatically rolled in this case? Or will it only roll forward contracts on the actual expiration date (and not roll already expired contracts)?

        Hello johnathanhebert,

        Thank you for the update.

The Auto-rollover only works on an instrument that was already in the workspace on the "Active" contract and then it hits the day when the Instrument expires. Only then will it show the Auto Rollover message.

If the user manually selects an expired contract like you did, it won't suggest to auto-rollover.
        • For example, if the user manually chose an expired contract, then they most likely want to see it so we wouldn't want the web platform annoying them by suggesting to roll over that window every time they load in the workspace.

On the day of the expiration (for example, 3rd Friday on expiration date for the indices) it will still be possible to load the recently expired contract.

However, if you try loading the expired contract the next business day the symbol will be red (red = expired) and it will auto-roll to the current front month.
        • The caveat is that Auto roll Contracts needs to be enabled. Otherwise it will remain on the expired contract:

The pop-up notification looks at the traded volume. So for example with the indices, users would start to see that pop up a week before the expiration, at the start of the rollover week when volume starts to be greater on the next contract month.

I see. So when you say the contracts "Autoroll" -- you just mean that popup notification appears that tells you to manually roll them forward? Does it ever actually just automatically autoroll the contract with making the user do anything?

            Hello johnathanhebert,

            Thank you for the update.

The Auto Rollover message will appear when it tries to roll the contracts over so that the user is aware that it happened.

If you don't want it to roll over, then switch the instruments back.

We are currently in March when many of the 03-24 contracts will expire on the 3rd Friday of the month. Please feel free to use the web platform around then and see how the Auto rollover message works first hand.

The ES, NQ, YM and RTY contracts for 03-24 terminated this morning at 8:30 Central. When I log into my web workspace, it shows them as red, but they did not "automatically" roll. Is this the expected behavior?

                Hello johnathanhebert,

                Thank you for the update.

After further testing and investigation, we have found that the wording and functionality of the Web Platform's "Auto-rollover" setting is essentially reversed from the way we would expect it to work.

I have brought this up with our development team to get the wording and expected functionality of this setting updated so that it more clearly works as a user would expect.

So, if you actually disable the Auto Rollover notification and then restart the NinjaTrader Web platform, it will no longer let an expired contract stay in the workspace and will automatically roll the contract over as you'd expect.
                • Please disable the Auto rollover setting so that it works as you are expecting.

Again, I have pointed the functionality and the wording of this setting to our development team to get it updated in the future.

Thank you for pointing this out!

Wow, that does work. Thank you so much for understanding and pointing it out.
