Trading Futures and FX in NinjaTrader

I am currently using NinjaTrader (lifetime License) brokerage to trade futures and would like to trade Forex. Instead of paying $99/month for Multi-Broker Add-On for Ninja Trader Desktop, can I just dish Ninja Trader brokerage, buy Kinetics data and open an account with a broker that provides Futures and Forex trading capability in NinjaTrader?
What broker do you all suggest I go with that covers the 2 areas?

Bullero Well, you can do something like that ... but you should be very aware of these matters:

Summary: The only data you should use to trade live is the data from your broker for the account you are trading! No matter what you do, that is definitely the data the broker will use to place your Orders!

Thanks jeronymite. I actually don’t know the answer. How do I trade Futures, forex and stock using Ninjatrader. I currently have Forex.com and Ameritrade accounts. I use TD Ameritrade for Stocks, Forex.com MT4 for forex and Ninjatrader for futures. My skills is more developing Ninjatrader strategies. I currently buy strategies/bots on ThinkandSwim and MT4.

Bullero TD Ameritrade is available via NinjaTrader. FOREX.com is also available via NinjaTrader. You should be able to connect to both your accounts and trade directly using NinjaTrader. See the NinjaTrader online Help about Connections to see what you need to do.

Currently, Forex.com and Interactive Brokers support forex and can be connected with NinjaTrader.

NinjaTrader_ChelseaB I now have a more pressing issue. Last week Friday my strategy incurred a huge loss (over $500) because bars were missing for a while. Today I lost around $280 because the bars were missing for over 2 hrs, in fact, I got a margin violation because I had an open position due to the missing bars. Now I am afraid to trade unattended. What is the cause of this and how do I resolve it? It's happened about twice in the last 2 months apart from Friday and today.

While there is still a connection adapter for FXCM, this is no longer an officially supported brokerage.

Bullero, disconnections can occur, especially with unstable connection, or over the weekend maintenance.

NinjaTrader_ChelseaB thank you for the links to the Multiproviders pages. Q1-Can I just get a Kinetics data subscription for a couple of months to perfect my Forex trading strategies in SIM mode before paying the multi-provider monthly subscription? Regarding the disconnections, I switched to VPS so I am good, so no more trading directly on my Laptop, however Q2-The issue I know have is when I open my laptop it disconnects my VPS connection(I think Continuum data or NInjatrader lifetime license conflicts), do I need to change my laptop NinjaTrader license to SIM mode to allow back testing of strategies on my laptop before deploying to VPS?

Yes, you could subscribe to forex data with Kinetick for a few months before enabling the Multi-broker addon for the user account to enable live trading.

NinjaTrader Continuum only allows for one connection at a time. However, if you login using the NinjaTrader connection type, 2 simultaneous connections are allowed.

No, you don't need to remove any enablements from the user account to do backtesting.

Thanks , I will give Kinetics a go and report back on my forex trading experience. Not sure what NinjaTrader connection type is but will research and use that instead of the continuum.

Bullero There is not a specific monthly fee for multi-provider mode. Multi-broker add-on is a one-time fee. So, your comment above about paying the multi-provider monthly subscription confuses me. NinjaTrader connection type is what the old "Continuum" connection type has become by default in 8.1. You would set up a connection of type NinjaTrader (not Continuum) with your PLATFORM username and password (not your Continuum username and password) in the connection list if multi-provider is checked. In this way, you can use two copies of NinjaTrader Desktop both with live data from the same market data subscription.

QuantKey_Bruce thanks. I thought multi provider was a subscription. Your route is a better option since i already have a forex.com account. Just to confirm the proposed setup requires I continue to pay for Continuum for my VPS environment but use NinjaTrader with laptop connection, right ? I only received one username and password from Ninjatrader, should request another for the new connection type ?
