Hi -

I've recently ported a strategy to NinjaTrader and want to enable the strategy to perform trade executions on my behalf. I've looked through the documentation and it's unclear to me how to "enable" a strategy to begin automatically placing orders without needing me to confirm or send orders.

Could someone point me in the right direction.

Are you able to successfully add the strategy to a chart?

Have you disabled "Confirm order placement" in Tools -> Options -> General?

Hi Dave, thanks for the prompt reply. Yes, I just unselected the "confirm" per your suggestion. Silly me, it appears that the "strategy" tab is here I "enable" strategies. It was staring right at me, perhaps I've been to deep in the code to see this tab ;-)

Yes, but, that's not quite the same thing.

You actually have 2 choices to enable a strategy,

1. Add strategy to chart, then enable it there:
(In chart window, disable ChartTrader, then right-click and select "Strategies...")
2. Add strategy to "Strategies" tab directly:
(In CC window, select "Strategies" tab, then right click and select "New Strategy...")

#2 bypasses the need for a chart window, but also means all the goodness of seeing trade activity happen right on the chart is (obviously) unavailable.

Now that I've confused you with these 2 choices, that "Enabled" checkbox on the right in the Strategies tab actually applies to both methods.

Personally, I prefer using method #1, because I like seeing the trade activity on the chart, and because my strategy adds some buttons to the toolbar, too.

If I was going to run many strategies (perhaps 10 or 12 or more?) at the same time, at some point the direct approach afforded by the Strategies tab becomes more convenient.

Oh! I see. I've only seen Strategy on "chart" when i run a simulation, I did NOT know you can attach it to a general chart.

Thanks Dave. I appreciate the assistance. I'm new to NinjaTrader. Had i known I could add strategies to my chart I would not have had to duplicate some code.
