    Trade Not Reversing??

    Hello,
I have a question that is puzzling me. I have three separate strategies running on a chart. As you can see in the attached image one of the strategies issued a buy, but on the very next bar when the other strategy issued the sell signal it did not exit the long position and issue a short position at the same time. It kept both positions on, long and short, which is a no no when you actually start trading live. How do I stop this from happening with strategies built in in strategy builder? Maybe this is something that can only happen in simulated trading accounts, but I definitely want a position to exit and take the opposite trade at the same time if the signal is generated. Thank you for for your help!! I really appreciate it!!

    Hello Mr.Emini,

Separate strategies do not see what other strategies are doing. When you run more than one strategy on a single instrument they will conflict if you are doing two actions like long and short. You would have to make a single strategy if you want it to know the position and react to that. You likely can combine the strategies but you may need to modify the conditions so that you have a first long condition checking if you are flat and the log conditions then entering and a second short condition doing the same but for short.

      Hello Jesse,
Thank you for your response!! I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His Holy Spirit speaking to my spirit as this was what I was thinking right after I made the post!!! In the Strategy Builder what would be the easiest way to go about implementing your recommendations?

        Hello Mr.Emini,

That depends on what you made. If you made a simple crossover strategy it would just require adding another set for the short side. This question depends on what you made so if you have something more complex that requires variables or multiple sets you will have to plan out how those long and short sets coordinate to make sure it works as you expect.

          Hello Jesse,
Please forgive me as I don't understand your response. I know a little bit about coding and I thank the Lord Jesus Christ that He has given me knowledge and understanding that I can do some things in Strategy builder. When you are talking about more complex variables and multiple sets I don't understand fully, or even know where to begin, on how to combine or coordinate three separate strategies in the Strategy Builder. Could you give me a quick example on the crossover example you mentioned when you said it would require adding another set for the short side. How would you put that in Strategy Builder? Maybe that would help me understand better. Thank you!!

            Hello Mr.Emini,

I would suggest watching the following video, that goes over doing a simple ma crossover strategy. That also goes over how to use the builder and create conditions and run the strategy, its a good starting point to get up to speed on strategy development.
