    Strategies Remain White - Again

NT Folks, this is a continuation of thread:

Enabled strategies remain white and inactive - NinjaTrader Support Forum

As I mentioned, some Strategies, when activated, never turn green. They remain white, no matter how long I wait. Exploring this more, I'm pretty sure this is an issue on your end, aggravated by my particular usage.

On screen shot foo2a, you can see the strategy is white. The strategy is loaded onto chat from screen shot foo2b, of which I have about eight instruments specified, where each one is loading 30-50 days of back data. When I break it out, then it loads I create a new chart with only one instrument, and only one strategy. (Screen shots foo1a and foo1b.) Now, the strategy loads and engagements. This is the exact same strategy, exact same options, exact same instrument. Yet, it loads in one circumstance and not the other.

So, I would guess what's going on is, on a complex chart, the instruments never fully load (especially when I specify to load up to 50 days of back data). Therefor, the strategy never activates, waiting for the load. You can see, when I simplify, then it works.

I can already predict your response of, simplifying my charts to avoid this issue. I will do this as a short term solution. However, this solution doesn't scale. If I have to do this too much, then I'm going to have over 75 charts configured. Scrolling and flipping through them then becomes unwieldy.

So, it'd be great if you can put some resources into exploring and resolving this issue. Thanks,

    Hello timmbbo,

If you have an open forum post and have a continuation of a problem please make sure to use that existing post instead of a new thread. I see that this is the third post on this topic, please do not open another post for this topic and instead reply to one of the three threads that you already have open.

If the strategy is white that is an indication that it is either not finished calculating or there is a problem while running that many strategies on your PC. To help isolate the issue please try running fewer strategies and see if that helps. You may also need to debug the strategy to confirm that in its code it is entering realtime and processing when you see that it is white.

If you are loading a lot of data you may be hitting an account subscription limit, for example if your strategy loads secondary series you may be exceeding the limit which would mean the strategy will not enter realtime.

Jesse, I understand your point on creating new threads, which I'll follow in the future.

I appreciate your response, but it doesn't explain why I can't activate strategies on busy charts. Then, when a add a brand new chart, and load only that strategy and instrument, then the strategy activates. Is this was a CPU or account limit issue, then it very much seems like adding another chart/instrument/strategy would continue to fail. Instead, the strategy activates. So, adding more solves this problem, instead of making it worse.

Therefore, I continue to believe that NT issues play a role in this issue.

        Hello timmbbo,

As described in one of the previous threads you would need to use prints to debug the strategy and identify what is happening and if the script is loading and entering into realtime. That would be a first step to understand if that is related to the strategy remaining white. You can use prints in State.DataLoaded to check if data loaded and also in OnBarUpdate to check if the script processes all historical bars and enters into realtime. If the script is getting stuck for some reason during historical processing then it would remain white and would not enter realtime and fully enable. If you have a way to reproduce the issue that would also be a good starting point so you can run some tests to see specifically what is happening in that use case.
