AI generate "Exit on Session Close"

I've been experimenting with the AI generate feature of the Strategy Analyzer. Regardless of what settings I select for "Exit on Session Close" or "Break at EOD" the strategies it comes up with always hold positions for multiple days, they do no close at end of day. I just wanted to double check and see if there's a setting I'm overlooking on my end that would enable the generator to create strategies that exit on session close. Please let me know. Thank you.

    Hello zrobfrank,

    Thank you for your post.

I believe that the Exit Conditions section of the AI Generate properties contains a checkbox for "Session close" and whether that box is checked or not there will be generations that do exit on session close and some that do not exit on session close. If you leave "Session close" unchecked this should result in only day trades and no positions held over multiple days. For more details on the AI Generate properties, please see the help guide page here:

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

      Emily,

I have tried running the generator both with "Session Close" checked and unchecked, and with the "Exit on Session Close" checked, and all of the strategies generated hold positions over many days. Typically, the strategies generated will only execute one trade that is held for many days. I will try running it and adjusting the "Order Fill Resolution", but through trial and error and again referencing the help guide page you suggested, I have been unable to generate strategies that only produce day trades. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I ran a couple of tests on my end and I noticed that if I had "Session close" unchecked and "Exit on session close" checked, the results on the Trades display showed only same-day trades and nothing that would have carried over to the next trading day. Please test this on your end and check the Trades display to confirm. I even see some exits with the name ExitOnSessionClose as it seems to be conforming to that behavior. If you are still getting unexpected results, please provide a screenshot of the settings and the results.
        • To send a screenshot with Windows 10 or newer I would recommend using the Windows Snipping Tool.
        • Alternatively to send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screenshot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save it as a jpeg file and send the file as an attachment.
I appreciate your time and patience.

          Emily,

Thank you for your help. I've got it producing daytrades now. Is there anyway to limit how far it will test? It seems that in many scenarios, if I let the generator finish it will come up with 99 performance strategies that only yield 1 trade. It sure would be handy to have it stop generating once it hit a reasonable number. Thanks.

          Rob

            Hello Rob,

            Thanks for your reply.

You could consider modifying the value for "Threshold of generations" which can decide if the optimization process should be aborted or not based on whether results do not improve. A more detailed description of this property may be found on this page:

Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.
