    Data Series, incomplete fields?

    Hello,

I copied my existing strategy to a new file (Save As).

When I tried to optimize it, the Data Series fields appeared shorter than normal.

How do I get it back to normal?

    Many Thanks, Caesar.

This is preventing me from running optimization. A runtime error of Unhandled Exception occurs.

Other existing strategies, does not have this issue.

Hello, thanks for writing in. The strategy will not have an effect on the data series that is chose in the strategy analyzer. Please first use Visual Studio Debugging to find the line in your script that is causing the unhandled exception:

        Hi Chris,

The data series issue is also happening with new scratch stratgy.

The unhandled exception is coming from NT itself, probably due to the Data Series configuration missing.

        Many Thanks, Caesar.

Hi, Could you demonstrate this using the SampleMaCrossover strategy? The data series configuration comes straight from the strategy analyzer, similar to the data series window.

SamplaMACrossover does not have this issue.

Ok, the issue must be from the strategy that you have made. The best way to find out what code is causing this exception is to use Visual Studio debugging.

No, I created a new scratch strategy, copied over the code from a working strategy, that has data series configuration works, and no exceptions.

The data series configuration is incomplete in the newly copied strategy.

The issue is not in my code, why would my code affect the Data Series GUI?

I'm going to reinstall NT, see if that fixes the issue.

I reinstalled, the issue is still happening. I took a look at my few other strategies, and some of them had the Data Series configuration GUI truncated as well.

Hi, I will have to assume there is one or more custom scripts causing this to happen. Please try this on a clean environment, then move over one strategy of yours that you would like to backtest into the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\Strategies folder of the new environment.

                      To create a clean environment:

Navigate to your Documents folder > Right-click on the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder > Rename > rename the folder to 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD'. DO NOT delete this folder.
Navigate to the Windows Control Panel>Uninstall a program>look for "NinjaTrader", then repair the installation.

This will generate a brand new "NinjaTrader 8" folder in the Documents. This is where all your user data is stored, just uninstalling from the Control Panel will not modify this folder. To revert back to your old installation, rename "NinjaTrader 8" to "NinjaTrader 8PREV" and rename "NinjaTrader 8OLD" back to "NinjaTrader 8" NinjaTrader looks for a folder called "NinjaTrader 8" in the documents to operate.

Now, go into Documents\NinjaTrader 8OLD\bin\Custom\Strategies and copy the strategy .cs file, paste it and all its dependencies into the respective folder in "NinjaTrader 8"

This worked. Many Thanks! It appears my workspace (or the sqlite db) is corrupted somehow.

How do I configure NT as before (i.e. from entering lifetime license, connections, etc.)?

Please go to Help>About and let me know the version number you are running. Things have recently changed with the desktop platform so there are two options depending on the version you are running.

P.S Close down NinjaTrader, then Copy over the "Config.xml" file from Documents\NinjaTrader 8OLD into the new Documents\NinjaTrader 8 folder. This will re-populate the license key and connections you had set up.

                              I'm on version 8.1.1.7 64-bit. I'll try the config.xml route.
