measuring how far price is from a certain level

    Hi!

It's possible to measure how far the price is from a certain level, by using the Strategy builder?

As an example, I would say how far is the price from the indicator Current day OHL (current low)? How can I use the builder to obtain a number of ticks or %?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rocha

    Hello Rocha,

    Thank you for your post.

The Strategy Builder does have some limitations when it comes to math operations, though there is usually a workaround that may be done using a custom series because an offset may be used. I have created an example that shows how to get the number of ticks of difference between the Close price and the Current Day OHL Low price. Here is a video explaining how I set up the attached strategy in the Strategy Builder:

This example shows how to get the difference in ticks; if you'd like to get the difference as a percentage, you would likely need to add another custom series that holds the value of the Difference series for the current bar divided by the Close price for the current bar (this may be done using an offset). You would then be able to set up a variable that multiplies the value of that series by .01 to move the decimal place over and convert it to a percentage value. As mentioned in the following post, math is performed in the Strategy Builder using an offset:
Hi is it possible to conduct the basic math operations( + - / ") using the strategy builder.or indicator development procedure without programming knowledge. thanks in advance.

Although math functions are possible in the Strategy Builder, there are still limitations and they can quickly become pretty complex whereas using an unlocked strategy in the Strategy Builder would not be as complex and would allow for easier math calculations to achieve the same outcome.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.
