What kind of computer horsepower do I need to do quick and extensive backtesting?

So I know ninja trader can only use a maximum of 64 threads,

but how much memory should I get? 128GB? 256GB?

im doing backtesting on my 4 thread 16GB laptop right now and this ninja trader is using every last transistor in this thing

That said, computer memory is important for long resource-intensive tests that generate a large number of trades without your machine stalling. Computer processor speed is important to get optimization iterations done quickly and the number of CPU cores allows for more iterations to run simultaneously.

Strategy optimizations are expected to consume a good deal of CPU resources, simply due to the nature of the iterative data processing they perform. Strategies with a relatively large number of parameters for optimization can multiply this impact.
