Can two strategies go long and short concurrently in the same market?

    Hello,

If I have a sub-account and the main account, can my two strategies (one for each account) go long and short concurrently on the same market?

    Thanks,

    Billy

Hello, thanks for writing in. If you deliberately go long and short in two separate accounts this would be called a "Wash" trade which is not allowed in any exchange. Please contact your broker if you have any other questions regarding the rules of this. The platform itself will run two strategies on two separate accounts with no problem.

    Kind regards,

      Hello Chris,

Thank you for your reply. I think I did not describe the scenario clearly. My scenario is such that both of these strategies trade using AI models, and both of them trade independently of each other (on two separate accounts). Hence, it is possible that one strategy is in a long position (directed by one AI model), and the other strategy (directed by a different AI model) may decide to go short moments later (when the first strategy position is still long). This is akin to two prop traders trading with individual sub-accounts, and they trade their own style with no regard for each other. Except in my case, the prop traders are two strategies driven by different AI models. I hope that explains the scenario clearly.

      Best,

      Billy

Hi Billy, Its will be possible to do in the platform using NinjaScript. There is nothing that would limit you from doing this.

        Kind regards,

          Hello Chris,

Thank you for the reply. Let's take this scenario a step further, what if the two strategies are running off the same account (assuming using NinjaTrader Broker), will that be allowed? Will the second short position initiated by the second strategy immediately flatten the first long position started by the first strategy? Or will NinjaTrader allows the strategy to continue to run until each strategy closes its own position, as decided by their respective AI models?

          Best,

          Billy

Hi Billy, thanks for your reply. That will not work. A single account can not be long and short at the same time on the same instrument.

            Kind regards,
