Support and Resistant Levels

Hey guys
I hope you are doing well
I have a question, which is basically a trading question, however, since it involves NT, I was hoping to find an answer here.
I have a script which detects support and resistance levels. I know that I shall enter a Short or Long position, based on the price movement, as it reaches my levels. However, the problem is this: sometimes the price responses a few pips before or a few pips after the detected area. The question is, how do I recognize when the price is about to respond to my levels? I know this is a "DUDE! IF WE KNEW , ..... " question, however any suggestions on what to expect in NT would be appreciated. I was suggested to use Range bars, however, I couldn't figure it out, probably my bad.

Thank you for your note.

My suggestion would be to review posts from other forum users as well as existing scripts in the User App Share related to Support and Resistance in order to see how other users might be taking this into consideration. I was able to find the following link by searching the forums, and this user noted, "I want to consider location of support and resistance such as swing highs or OHLC or pivots. Let's say I have a 40 tick target on a long trade but if there is resistance such as a swing high less than 40 ticks away I don't want the trade to execute."

As for the User App Share, there are scripts publicly available on our NinjaTrader Ecosystem website. Here is a link for the "support and resistance" search results:

By downloading and reviewing scripts from other developers, they might be able to help give you some ideas and think of ways to modify your own support and resistance strategy.

Here is a basic guideline of how to import NinjaScript add-ons in NinjaTrader 8:

Note — To import NinjaScripts you will need the original .zip file.

To Import:

1. Download the NinjaScripts to your desktop, keep them in the compressed .zip file.
2. From the Control Center window select the menu Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-on...
3. Select the downloaded .zip file
4. NinjaTrader will then confirm if the import has been successful.

Critical - Specifically for some NinjaScripts, it will prompt that you are running newer versions of @SMA, @EMA, etc. and ask if you want to replace, press 'No'

Once installed, you may add the indicator to a chart by:

• Right-click your chart > Indicators... > Select the Indicator from the 'Available' list on the left > Add > OK

Regarding the use of range bars, you mentioned you couldn't figure it out. If you were having issues adding range bars to your script, please provide more details (screenshots, any error messages you received, etc) and we could be glad to assist you further.
