Custom Strategy - Machine ID

Hello,
What is the relationship between custom strategies and a machine ID. I hired a programmer to automate my strategy and they asked for my machine ID. Is it safe to assume that I'll only be able to run the custom strategy on my current computer?

Hello jfobel123,

Yes if you are working with a vendor to have something developed then they will ask for a machine ID to license it to just that machine.

Hello jfobel123,

You would need to speak to the developer you are working with to make sure its not locked to your machine if that is the overall goal. The platform by default exports items as source code which can be edited or used on any machine. Depending on what contract you worked out with the developer they may be able to provide the source code or they may be developing something which only you can use on your machine. You would have to consult them and let them know you wanted it open source so you can use it on any machine or choose to protect it later for further distribution.
