Any trick to start a strategy to act on the existing positions?

Hello everyone,
For the current 8.0.26.1, is it possible to program a strategy to act on exisiting positions? The IB Gateway daily server reboot (where time is not controllable by user) creates to me a lot of headaches as a running strategy (this means, a strategy that has already executed the Entry and order filled) could sometimes quit due to the IB disconnection. I find no way to carry on the strategy to manage the existing position.IB server reboot and ninja's strategy mechanism make overnight trading impossible.The only way to exit is by manual execution as far as I am aware of. (again, I am talking about IB Gateway's user uncontrollable server reboot, not the restart of Gateway that user can set time)

So, is it really true that a strategy cannot act on exisiting positions or am i miss something? If it's true that a strategy can only manage its own run time positions, could Ninja make an improvement to make it possible?

Hello timko,

It is possible to resume orders or positions that the strategy previously made however this completely depends on your strategy and its requirements. Most strategies cannot resume positions/open orders because their logic will not equate exactly the same when re processing historical data. If you strategy can be re enabled and it can re create the exact series of events to submit those orders/create those positions then the strategies start behavior can be used for that process. If it cannot then it will manage the open orders by cancelling them which may leave unprotected positions.
