    Strategy Analyzer: Parameters: Zeros

Why is it that, in the "Parameters" column, sometimes the SA provides an approximation to a zero value, rather than simply presenting a zero? See the attached for a screen shot.

    Hello spottysallrite,

Are you referring to the E that you sometimes see on a calculator from numbers with really long decimals?

These are exponential numbers that computers use to represent really long numbers.

Below is a link to a google search.

Right. Those "E"s are representing ten to the negative power of 17. So, that's essentially zero. So why not just show that as zero?

      Are you a robot ?

        Hello spottysallrite,

This how computers and calculators work.

You can round the number to a decimal place or you can use number format strings if you don't want to see the full number representation.

        I am not a robot. I am a person.

Right. That's in the "Parameters" section of the SA. Are you suggesting there is a way I can access the code that produces that display?

            Hello spottysallrite,

Apologies that can't be changed by a script.

I will submit a feature request for our development to consider formatting long decimals or floats.

Once I have a tracking ID for this request I will post in this thread for future reference.

Thanks, but having that code simply display a zero when the result is a zero would be fine. Changing this will make the "Parameters" section easier to read. I don't need to be able to format that myself.

To wit, when you ask development to look into this, ask them to consider changing the format of the output, which should be easy to do, rather than something more complicated, like providing functionality to the user to change the format. Yes, it might be nice for the user to have that option, but I don't want this to be delayed or rejected based on providing that feature.
