Parabolic Stoploss not working on different instruments

Hi, I created a strategy in the strategy builder and have been backtesting it on the MNQ 12-21 and it works great (average time in a trade is like 8 minutes) . However when I switch it to the MNQ 03-22 instrument, the parabolic stop loss no longer seems to be working. Trades will be executed under the specified conditions but then run all day with average time in the market being like 2 hours. Some trades even run fro the entire day and exit on session close. I was wondering if you had anything you recommend I check to try and fix this. Feel like I've tried everything!

When you apply the strategy, please check the NinjaTrader control centers "Log" tab for any error messages related to the strategy.

What is the strategy Calculate setting? (Calculate.OnBarClose, Calculate.OnEachTick, or Calculate.OnPriceChange)?

Did you backtest using the strategy analyzer or using PlayBack with Market replay data?

Please post a screenshot of the parabolic stop settings you have in the strategy builder.

What bar type and bar size are you using?

Hi,

The Log checks out, no error messages.

It is set to Calculate.OnEachTick.

Was backtested using the strategy analyzer.

Bars are 400 Ticks.

In the parabolic stop settings, you are specifying an entry signal with the name of p322. Can you confirm that is the specific name for all your entries? Please note that syntax is critical so the lower case p is important.

Yes it is the name for all of the entries. The strategy works when backtesting it on the MNQ 12-21 but on the MNQ 3-22 the open positions run all day long and exit on session close.

I've run a test using the same settings of the parabolic stop, in the strategy analyzer, using 400 tick bars of the MNQ 03-22 and do not see any issues. The stop was the only exit.

Please post a screenshot of the strategy analyzer settings you are using.

I replicated your setting in the analyzer and with my simple test strategy using the parabolic settings you've provided I don't see any issues, all of the exits were by the parabolic stop.

I've attached that strategy below and would ask that you download, install and test on your end.

Here is a basic guideline of how to import NinjaScript add-ons in NinjaTrader 8:

Note — To import NinjaScripts you will need the original .zip file.

To Import:

1. Download the NinjaScripts to your desktop, keep them in the compressed .zip file.
2. From the Control Center window select the menu Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-on...
3. Select the downloaded .zip file
4. NinjaTrader will then confirm if the import has been successful.

Critical - Specifically for some NinjaScripts, it will prompt that you are running newer versions of @SMA, @EMA, etc. and ask if you want to replace, press 'No'
