enter after signal bar

Hello NT community,

I'm trying to create a strategy through strategy builder and need help. How would I say if a signal was generated in the previous bar, enter a long position on the next candle or after the close of the previous bar(that generated the signal)? For example, in the attached photo, the red dot would be the signal bar, and after that bar would close with that signal, strategy would enter a long position on the next bar(blue line). All your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your post.

You can use the standard calculation mode of Calculate.OnBarClose (this is the default mode). This means that your strategy will calculate once at the end (close) of the bar. When the signal occurs it will be placed on that bar and if the strategy places an order based on the signal, then because the signal bar has closed, the order can only be filled on the next bar.

In the strategy builder, you would create conditions that when true would both draw the dot and place the entry order.

Hi NinjaTrader_PaulH,

I appreciate the links you sent me but I still couldn't resolve my issue. I'm not looking for how to use drawing markers (such as dot, triangle, arrow, etc.). The picture was for illustration purposes. I have looked around and can't find how to code if previous bar equals to signal than enter position on next candle. I have tried default input[0]=indicatorplot[0]. Please help with this.

My initial reply was based on that you were asking about timing, if x happens then do this.

Your question is really how to determine if x happens.

In order to answer your question, please provide specifics of what you are trying to do. What is the "value" of the signal or specific condition you are trying to detect and in what indicator(s)?

If you are unsure what signal value the indicator provides you could try printing out the value of the signal relative to the time of each bar and in that way determine when the condition occurs and the value the signal produces. The indicator that I'm using is not NT native but from a vendor. I came to find out it is missing the plot I wanted to use in the strategy. I had a talk with the vendor and he told me he is soon going to show how to you use his indicators with NinjaScript. I'll leave it for the time being. Thank you for trying to assist me.
