Sumbit order for Day + Extended hours

Hello, IB allows a Day order to be submitted, also allowing execution in the premarket session and after hours of that Day. Is there a way for a strategy to submit an order like this? Or are we limited to Day (without pre market or after hours) vs GTC?

    Thanks again

    Hello RobotSyndicate,

    Thank you for your reply.

For IB orders to trigger after hours, they must be submitted with a TIF setting of GTC (this may be set in the strategy parameters) and you must also have the "Trigger After Hours" checkbox checked in your Interactive Brokers connection settings (You can check this under Control Center > Connections > Configure > your configured IB Connection.

This will only work if you also have "Allow order to be activated, triggered, or filled outside of regular trading hours" enabled in TWS (Configure > Order > Order Presets > Timing menu).

If you ensure these settings are in place you should be able to submit orders during premarket/afterhours.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance to you.

      Hi Kate,

I don't just want to create a GTC order. I want to create a Day + Ext order, as is available in IB and most brokers. The difference is that a GTC order has to be cancelled by the strategy, whereas a Day + Ext order will still work in the premarket and after hours, but then will be cancelled by the broker at the end of the after hours session.

      Thanks.

        Hello RobotSyndicate,

        Thank you for your reply.

In looking through their documentation, I'm not seeing that Interactive Brokers has a Time in Force setting of Day + Ext. The only information I have for them regarding orders that can trigger in the overnight hours would be the information previously provided regarding the "Allow order to be activated, triggered, or filled outside of regular trading hours" option.

Can you provide a link to documentation showing that Interactive Brokers supports this specific TIF? If so, I'd be happy to submit a feature request for support for this on your behalf.

Thanks in advance; I look forward to assisting you further.

          Hi Kate,
          https://www.interactivebrokers.com/e...for_orders.htm
By default, the time in force for orders is set to "Day", restricted to RTH. "Fill outside of RTH" can be activated.
I don't see from their documentation that allow "Fill outside of RTH" would override the expiry at the end of the day.

            Hello NT-Roland,

            Thank you for your reply.

Orders intended to trigger outside market hours would need to be sent as GTC and the "Fill outside of RTH" would need to be set in both the user's Interactive Brokers connection configuration and TWS. As I mentioned to RobotSyndicate, I do not see anything in their documentation that they support Day + Ext as a TIF setting. If this is not the case, we can put in a feature request to support that, however, I don't see that they do.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance to you.

              Hello Kate,
I'm not sure, I can follow. Is this a limitation of the interaction of Ninja and their TWS or something in their TWS?
Just for fun, I placed an order valid for the Day with allowed "Fill outside of RTH" in my TWS.

                Hello NT-Roland,

                Thank you for your reply.

My understanding is that it would be a requirement on their end for the order to have a GTC Time in Force. Using Day would still cause the order to be cancelled at the end of the day, regardless of whether the Fill outside RTH option is checked.
