Optimization Parameters

Hi,

there are a lot of parameters that can be adjusted when doing optimization. I am particularly interested in the Trading Hours parameter.

There are a lot of options, like different exchanges, 24/7, 24/5, etc.

which are the correct ones to use? Obviously different selections gives different results. Basically I am trading the E-minis on a 24/5 basis and not only in the NY session.

Would the 24/5 parameter be the correct one?

Also, What are the difference between the optimization and walk forward optimization?

Hello Induna,

In general the <Use instrument settings> selection is the correct one to use.

The instrument will have a default trading hours template selected in the instrument settings.

The trading hours templates are the hours of the exchange. The correct one to use depends on the instrument and the exchange it trades on.

CME products can have different hours. The ES is Globex and uses the CME US Index Futures ETH. The CL is Nymex and uses the Nymex Metals - Energy ETH.
Typically, the exchange website will list the hours for the instrument in the instrument specifications.

A walk-forward optimization will optimize over a test period, then use the resulting parameters on the next date range of the optimization period, and then the next.. until the range is complete.
