How to copy a strategy in strategy builder

Hello williamzz,

You would need to use the Builder and then the Save As feature. To do this, open the builder to where you can select strategies from the dropdown list. Click the dropdown list to show the strategies, and then hover your mouse over the strategy. You should now see Save As which can be used to duplicate the script.

Although I've been following the exact steps as outlined in this video (https://youtu.be/BA0W4ECyVdc?t=508), I am unable to perform the Save As operation from within a contextual menu opened by right-clicking on the NinjaTrader Editor window (on the source code). My Save As option is disabled (grayed out). Please see the attached screenshot.

The only option is, indeed, to do a Save As directly from the Strategy Builder wizard, like you said. Has the contextual menu Save As option been disabled in the latest versions of NinjaTrader 8?

Hello MarianApalaghiei,

If this is a builder strategy you would need to keep using the builder until you unlock the code. SaveAs from within the NinjaScript editor is only intended for unlocked code. The first screen in the builder with the dropdown list is the correct way to duplicate a builder strategy.

Hey all - I actually had this same question before but found an easier way to do it.... If you simply open the strategy with the builder, change the name and then click compile you get a duplicate strategy with a different name so you're effectively copying the strategy.

Way easier than unlocking and using save as because a lot of people can't code.

If there is some issue with this method someone official please chime in but I've had no issues using it.

Just to clarify for other users who are using the builder, you do not unlock the strategy to duplicate it.

If you want to duplicate a builder strategy and also continue using the builder, you can use the builders existing Save As feature to duplicate the script:

1. Navigate to the first page in the builder
2. Click the drop down where the strategies are listed.
3. Hover the mouse over the strategy you want to duplicate
4. Click the now visible SaveAs.

There is never any need to unlock the code to duplicate a builder strategy. I just wanted to stress this because unlocking the code will prevent the original strategy from being loaded in the builder.
