What is ^ADV

Hello Community!

New here and new to futures trading in general, which will likely be obvious due to the question....

I am working on futures trading strategies and was adding new symbols to my Futures Instrument list and somehow added ^ADV along with a bunch of other symbols beginning with ^. I am not familiar with these symbols and cannot find much info on them.

What are these symbols exactly and are they tradable? Specifically, I opened a futures trading account at Phillip Capitol and I have a Continuum data feed. Would I be able to trade ^ADV? I can get backtest data.

^ symbols are usually indexes or stats about the market, and you can't trade them.

ADV usually stands for the # of advancing stocks. DEC usually stands for the # of declining stoc
ks.

sledge is correct in that the caret ^ denotes an Index.

I wanted to further provide a link to the supported indexes for CGQ/Continuum based connection types.

I'm still not clear on if these are trade-able or not. Indexes are generally tradeable are they not? Furthermore, NT allows me to select ^ADV as an instrument and simulate trades on it using backtest as well as allowing me to pull up a chart and add a strategy.

Indexes are not tradable. These are market metrics.
